An introductory look into the world of databases.
The course first covers the Fundamental aspects of databases. Sufficient fundamentals are covered to ensure that the student understands what is occurring, and why, when working with a database.
The Practical aspects of the course covers actual database use. In this section, basic use of the standard querying language SQL is used. The purpose is to exercise some of the basic functionalities of a database.
Lastly, the theory behind what databases do, and how to optimize their use is covered.
Since this course is engine neutral, it is left to the professor to apply the lectures to the particular environment.
