Hana Hashimoto - Guided Reading
Hana Hashimoto was a beginning violinist. Her grandfather, back in Japan,
was a well-known professional violinist. While Hana practiced, she faced
the obstacles of her brothers making fun of her, the dog howling, etc. When
it was time for the Talent Show, Hana “swallowed her fear” and played the
sounds of lowing cows, squeaking mice, and croaking frogs to the applause
of the audience, including her family. Hana exhibits a growth mindset
throughout this story. While improving upon their reading comprehension
and critical thinking, students also discover what a growth mindset is.
