Easy science project for students to complete on dissolving sugar in a cup of tea. This is at 3 clearly differentiated levels (Easy, Medium, Difficult), so you can pick the one that is most appropriate to each student. Students can then peer assess one another, or self assess themselves using the checklist. The checklist will need adapting depending on what levels you are using for assessment!

This would be fantastic to use at home too, as it is an easy scientific experiment for children to do. You just need a glass, water and sugar. They could expand on this by counting how many teaspoons of sugar dissolve in hot and cold water. They could find out what happens to the speed at which particles move in hot and cold water, and therefore why there is a difference. It is also a good opportunity to practice drawing particle diagrams.
