Students pretend they are ordering from a restaurant and calculate the gratuity and tax based on what they choose to order. The activity in this lesson will help students experience how to apply proportions in the real world when calculating the gratuity of a restaurant bill. This lesson will also provide students knowledge about the current sales tax rate in the state that they reside in, as well as the customary percentage of gratuity given to waiters and waitresses. This kind of information is necessary for students to acquire so that they become well-informed and well-rounded human beings.
