Students search to find 10 elements hidden around your room. Students explore the properties of the elements to decide if they are transition metals using a criteria sheet (properties). They then consider the electron configurations of the same elements to decide if they are transition metals (based on the most recent IUPAC definition). Finally students reflect on the criteria they use and the definition of transition metals. Ideal for introducing transition metals to IB and A-level chemistry.
It is well-planned lesson.
Getting students moving whilst working always good with a 'bouncy' class
