100 square, 200 square and multiplication grid

100 square, 200 square and multiplication grid

100 Square (1 blank and 1 in colour to highlight odds and evens). 200 square (1 blank and 1 in colour to highlight odds and evens). Multiplication grid. Editable on word so can increase or decrease number size or can change colours to help children with Irlens. Great to laminate and use on tables during lessons. Could also increase size and use on working wall. I used the blank 100 square to help teach square and cube numbers. The children had to colour in the square and cube numbers in different colours. More able used 200 square for the activity.

FREE Year 1 Mathematical challenges for able pupils in Key Stages 1 - PowerPoint Presentation

FREE Year 1 Mathematical challenges for able pupils in Key Stages 1 - PowerPoint Presentation

I have been a keen fan of this book for a long time. I was really excited to see as part of the Open Government scheme, I was able to take this book and make it into something I believe is much more user friendly. When I used the original book with an interactive whiteboard, I was always annoyed at having to skim to the end of the book to show an answer. I wanted it on the next page. In addition, I have now replaced all the pictured with much more stimulating colourful pictures. I have also taken the time to follow the advice of Dudley council and sorted the different problems into age groups and blocks. You will notice there is some repetition of problems both between blocks and in different year groups. The students can try the same problem twice at different times, as this is excellent consolidation. It is also an excellent time to suggest students think about how they could change the problem. How can this be used in the classroom? This could be used as an assessment at the start or the end of a unit. It also could be used as an emergency set of lessons for any teacher while covering another teacher’s maths classes. In addition, it is also an excellent set of resources to prepare for different exams. Look at how the students resolve a problem and identify the different ways different students attempt to answer the same problem. In addition to answering the problems, this is also an excellent time to look into inverse operations. How do we know we have found all the answers? How do we know we have found the correct answer? I have really enjoyed making these mental maths problems a lot more accessible. I have enjoyed teaching them in a wide range of different classes and I hope that you too will enjoy making maths fun.

Mini Beast Estimation IWB activity for EYFS/KS1

Mini Beast Estimation IWB activity for EYFS/KS1

An interactive whiteboard activity to practice estimation. This resource uses mini beasts to demonstrate 'having a clever guess'. The mini beast will appear on the screen for a short period and by challenging the children to not only estimate but record their answer. My children loved it. I used this for a mixed ability carpet session on estimation and then as a starter.
