Primary Maths bundle of entirely free ICT resources (links to the BEST resources on the web)

Primary Maths bundle of entirely free ICT resources (links to the BEST resources on the web)

This is a catalogued set of ICT-based Maths resources covering all the major topics in the Primary Maths (KS1 and KS2) curriculum. Rather than just creating an enormous, endless list of (variable quality) resources, I've attempted to collect just a relatively small number of the very best resources freely available. There's three types of resource: - key 'tools' for the teacher to use on an IWB (e.g. Place Value Blocks, a Flip Counter, an Empty Number Line, a One Hundred Square, an Abacus, etc.) - demonstration activities that help the teacher explain/visualise a particular concept (these resources are pre-pended by the word 'Visualisation_') - practice activities for students to use in order to actually develop their skills. These are intended to be used by students working individually on a PC/laptop - with the teacher or supervising TA directing the student as to which particular topic they should practice. ONCE DOWNLOADED, THE COMPRESSED ZIP FILE NEEDS TO BE UNZIPPED. Please leave feedback, especially if you know of any better freely-available resources to teach a particular topic than the ones I have selected.

Premier League Maths Puzzles!

Premier League Maths Puzzles!

These short and snappy puzzles are perfect for engaging all of the football lovers in your class in a wide range of maths problems! Using real-life statistics from the English Premier League, students approach a number of varied maths topics, whilst also gaining valuable information about their favourite teams and players. I have used these resources with a number of KS2 and KS3 classes, and have always found that students find them extremely interesting and informative. Some of the maths topics covered include: statistics, percentages, charts and graphs, data handling, averages, ratios, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, estimation and problem solving, critical thinking, and fractions. Some of the specific tasks involved include: working out the goals to games ratio of some of the best strikers, finding out which teams have the best goal difference, and comparing player performance over different seasons. There are 30 tasks in total, in which each Premier League club is focused upon in at least one activity each. The tasks are also separated by difficulty into 'Beginner','Intermediate', and 'Difficult' tasks (refer to the B, I, or D symbols in the top left of each activity). All images within this resource are licensed for commercial use, and images are cited on the final slide.

Fraction Dominoes

Fraction Dominoes

Fraction Domino Description These games familiarise children with fractions and reinforce what fractions mean. The dominoes are played the same way as conventional dominoes but by representing each fraction in eight different ways, I aim for children to extract the essence of what a fraction is rather than simply matching identical pictures. In this new 2017 version of my Fraction Dominoes, I have replaced many of the diagrams with photographs. There are four sets at different levels which I have listed both separately and as a bundle. Set 1 1⁄2, 1⁄4, 3⁄4, 1⁄3 ,2⁄3, 1⁄5, 1 Set 2 1⁄6, 5⁄6, 1⁄8, 3⁄8, 5⁄8, 7⁄8, 1⁄12 Set 3 Equivalent fractions 1⁄2, 1⁄4, 3⁄4, 1⁄3, 2⁄3, 1⁄5, 4⁄5 Set 4 Equivalent fractions, including decimals and percentages 1⁄2, 1⁄4, 3⁄4 , 1⁄5, 4⁄5, 1⁄8, 1⁄10 The equivalent fractions help to explain how the same value may appear in different forms. In set 3, 1⁄2 can be matched with both a numerical and a pictorial representation of 2⁄4, 3⁄6, 4⁄8, and 5⁄10, for example. Set 4 introduces the idea that the same value can appear as a fraction, as a decimal or as a percentage. 1⁄2 can be matched with 0.5 and 50% as well as with half a box of eggs or half an apple, for example.
