Seasons booklet activity

Seasons booklet activity

This is a fun interactive activity. The front page allows children to add the months of the year in the correct order. They can then decorate each of the four sections f the tree to show the corresponding season. Inside the booklet is an opportunity for children to write the name of each season and there is space to allow children to draw the types of clothes they might need for each season. The booklets are designed to be printed double sided on A3 paper. Most printers allow you to reduce to A4 when if desired.

'Giving to help others' Assembly

'Giving to help others' Assembly

‘Giving to help others’ (http://givingtohelpothers.org) primary school assembly pack is an age appropriate presentation developed by teachers for teachers and it is linked to the KS1 and KS2 PSHE curriculum. Founded by charity Team Margot Foundation in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, ‘Giving to help others’ introduces primary school children to the concept of giving blood, platelets, bone marrow, stem cells and ultimately organs so that this type of conversation becomes the ‘norm’ rather than the exception. Although the children are too young to donate, the hope is that they go home and tell their adult loved ones at home and within their communities that they are able to help others now. The assembly pack is free and easily downloadable from the website givingtohelpothers.org. No pre-work is required because the PowerPoint presentation includes teacher notes to compliment the short animated video alongside a series of questions to help the children’s understanding. There is also text available that can be sent to parents / carers either before the assembly or afterwards in a newsletter. If preferred, the ‘Giving to help others’ assembly pack can also be given within the classroom. The delivery of ‘Giving to help others’ takes approximate 20 minutes. Please note that a new module on Blood is currently being developed for Year 6 and it will fit in with the STEM Statutory National Curriculum, as well as touching on the PSHE KS2 Association Programme of Study. It will also have strong links to the English Curriculum as well as Science and PSHE. New modules will be added annually to the ‘Giving to help others’ education programme.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee Lesson Plans & Activities Package, First Grade (CCSS)

This set of lesson plans, resources, and activities is for use with “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” by Philip C. Stead. It can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction – which makes these resources a smart choice for literacy centers or Reader’s Workshop. Here’s What You’ll Get and Why: My goal was to make it easy to teach readers how to think about “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” using a variety of comprehension strategies. That’s why I’ve included page by page lesson plans, guided practice worksheets, and text specific reader’s notebook prompts for the following strategies: Making Predictions Determining Importance Asking Questions Understanding Text Structure Synthesizing I also created an Extension Activity for early finishers. Next, I find that vocabulary instruction works best when it’s done within the context of books that students are already reading. That’s why I’ve included the following vocabulary resources: Vocabulary Word List Flash Cards (match words to pictures and match words to definitions) Interactive Vocabulary Notebook Cards Vocabulary Word Games Printable Personal Vocabulary Word Bookmark I’ve also included a word study lesson plan and set of activities, because, much like vocabulary, I find that word study works best within context. As a result, I have identified word patterns within trade books and have developed lesson plans and resources based on the word study that can be done with specific books. The lesson plan and set of resources for “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” focuses on R-Controlled Vowel Sounds and includes the following: Lesson Plan Interactive Activity Practice Page Independent Word Work This set of resources also includes the following: Running Record Assessment Common Core Aligned Comprehension Assessment Answer Keys Common Core State Standard Alignment Spanish translation of the comprehension strategy practice pages, reader’s notebook prompts (complete with Spanish Common Core “I Can” statements), and extension activities for use with A Sick Day for Amos McGee BONUS: Surprise Sample Resource I hope that you will enjoy using my resources along with your copy or copies of “A Sick Day for Amos McGee” by Philip C. Stead. If you have any questions about the resources included in this set please email me at AmyMackenzie@BookPagez.com. It will be my pleasure to reply and help you in any way I can.

Floating In Salt Water

Floating In Salt Water

This activity is designed to encourage children to investigate whether objects sink or float in fresh water and salt water. Children will discover that salt water is more dense than fresh water so objects float more easily in it, and they will observe that salt water sinks when added to fresh water. This activity is designed to help connect children to the wonders of the natural world through sensory and play-based learning.
