Rainbow Ranger PowerPoint - learn all about rainbows

Rainbow Ranger PowerPoint - learn all about rainbows

Many rainbows children find on the Internet are incorrect - they are portrayed in the wrong order, backwards, or with non-rainbow colors like pink. The Rainbow Ranger in this PowerPoint WebQuest will teach very young learners the correct order of rainbow colors as they learn to use the computer to access information and solve puzzles. Additionally, your students will learn how to spell the colors of the rainbow and they will learn a song that will help them remember the order of colors. This activity is perfect for a March theme on rainbows. Add it to a literacy unit that uses Rainbow Fish to add character education to your science unit. Note: Make sure you play the PowerPoint, rather than simply look at the single slides. You'll see that some pictures and paragraphs disappear on a single slide before the next picture or paragraph appear on the same slide. I did this to create interest!

Weather chart - UK

Weather chart - UK

I created this chart when curriculum 2014 came into effect to help me cover regularly the weather elements in the Science and Geography section with my KS1 children as well as 'time' within Maths. it is meant to be laminated or covered in sticky-back, clear adhesive so that it can be written on with a whiteboard marker. The months are colour coded to seasons and images are chosen to help the children learn the words and recall what happens over the year. My helpers of the day were responsible for updating the sticky images that were stuck on with sticky backed velcro. The sections with no small words in were written in at the beginning of every month by me. I did need to make three copies of the weather cards in case all three days had the same weather. Sometimes we had a discussion and sometimes the children completed the chart independently in the mornings. In maths, we used it to help organise and learn the days and months. The prediction of weather took a while for them to learn the difference between what they wanted the weather to be like compared to what the weather would probably be like in that season but did improve. It was also helpful to learn that sunny needn't mean warm which is why it has extended sections e.g. weather feeling cards too.

Stories and Poems to support Creative Science Key Stage 1 Pack

Stories and Poems to support Creative Science Key Stage 1 Pack

This resource has been designed to help bring creativity and the everyday science into your lessons by using stories and poems to enthuse your children. It is divided into year groups and can be purchased per year group, by key stages or as a whole school pack. Each year group has five detailed lesson plans with a story or poem for each of the topics. In years one and two where there are only four topics, an extra lesson has been added for one of the topics. Some of the lessons have more than one activity linked to the story and this can be used for an extended lesson or future lessons depending on how much time there is for the science lesson. This bundle contains Year 1 and Year 2 lessons . However it can be used in any country to support the use of poems and stories in science lessons. For those of you that are used to using stories and poems then this resource will hopefully expand your collection and for those that are new to teaching in this way then the resource will hopefully be the springboard to explore further poems and stories yourselves in the future. There may also be some new ideas for teaching science such as role plays and models that can be used in other science topics. A bonus of using the written word is the cross curricular links to other subjects such as Geography, History, DT and of course Literacy which are mentioned in the lesson plans when appropriate.
