Halloween Multiplication Word Problems Task Cards

Halloween Multiplication Word Problems Task Cards

Solving math word problems is more fun when there is a spooky twist, timed for Halloween. There are 20 word problems, predominantly focusing on multiplication skills with 1 digit x 1 digit and 2 digit x 1 digit. There is some addition included with critical thinking scenarios also. There are also blank task cards, where the children are asked to create their own word problem, solve it and then pass it on to someone else to find the answer. The problems require the children to solve the equations mathematically but also to be able to explain their answer, and so insists that there must be the ability to verbalise the concepts involved. This is a great way to have the children reflect upon their own learning and understanding of the concepts taught within these math strands and standards. This 10 page packet can simply be printed and put to great use as a review, homework practice or laminated and used as math centres task cards. An answer sheet is provided. For guided groups, I like to have the children glue the photocopied sheet into their notebooks with space to really reflect upon their answers and write their explanation below the problem. If you like these holiday activities, you will find many more holiday ideas for math and literacy in my stores and on my blog. Happy Halloween! ~ Susan Powers wwwPYPteachingtools.com

Year 3 times tables and mental/oral start Powerpoints

Year 3 times tables and mental/oral start Powerpoints

Please take a look at Monday's PowerPoint (FREE). If you liked it, the rest of the week is here for you. These are lesson starter activities to help Y3 children practise their 3 x tables so that they can recall them quickly (less than two seconds hopefully). It's important to remember that you must practise the tables with the children - these only help the children to recall them quickly and in a random order. I've used them very successfully for many years now. They also include mental oral starter type questions based on place value at 'average' Y3 children. They can be edited as necessary but please leave my logo on the last slide so other people know where to find me if they like these resources. As the week progresses, the activities consolidate and build upon prior and new learning. They also get harder as the year goes on.... please see others as they are uploaded. I've added the week/date as I've used them in class, but they can be changed to suit your own timetables.

Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 (Answers & Place value grid included)

Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 (Answers & Place value grid included)

This resource is perfect for providing high-quality lessons for multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. The two activity sheets are each differentiated four ways and are designed to help you assess children's abilities when presented with problems focused on various aspects of this National Curriculum Statement. I have also included an editable A3 place value grid which will support less able children with some of the easier challenges. Furthermore, if you wish to have a fun plenary or assessment game for this topic, I also have created an excellent, fully interactive Millionaire Quiz game that is tried, tested and well loved which is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-11474442

White Rose Maths hub place value resources and Smart Boards

White Rose Maths hub place value resources and Smart Boards

This is the second week of planning based on White Rose Maths. I struggled to find resources that linked with the document as much as I wanted them to so I decided to make my own. Let me know if you notice any mistakes. The objectives covered are: 100s 10s and 1s (place value) Estimating numbers on a numberline Finding 10 and 100 more or less Comparing numbers. (For this activity I cut up the numbers represented in different ways then the children had to pick 2 and compare) The images of the children have been taken directly from the Year 3 part of the document, as I wanted them to match as much as possible.
