Number Sense activity with ruler.

Number Sense activity with ruler.

Number sense takes center stage in doing mathematics and is one of the main stumble blocks for students with dyscalculia. Being able to visualize and apply a number line is an important number sense activity. You can help your student to develop this ability using a ruler or a tape measure that shows the inches or centimeters on one side and is blank on the other side, as number line, and a few small indicator stickies. Helps building estimation and number line skills. Use K-2

Using a 100 square - support for 100 or Bust game

Using a 100 square - support for 100 or Bust game

Maths by colour is all about practice. But what is the right kind of practice? In 100 or bust, learners are practising adding and subtracting two-digit numbers on their way to 100. What better way to practise this and help to make it automatic than by using a hundred square to physically see the additions and subtractions take place. This 100 square includes an explanation and example of how to use it for adding and finding the difference between numbers up to 100

Whole class version of 100 or bust using the whiteboard.

Whole class version of 100 or bust using the whiteboard.

This is a game that can simultaneously support basic arithmetic facts for the whole class while learners get used to the maths by colour system. Learners come up and make a number using the app (you might like to play with the app initially to see how it works). The number they make is recorded as soon as they flip the card. It's now the next person's turn. See how close you can get to 100 in this game.
