Food in Australia - Food Technology

Food in Australia - Food Technology

Look no further!!! This highly visual booklet of 34 pages is a resource that will have your students understanding and working on the topic of Food in (and from) Australia. Some of the topics covered include Bush Tucker, European influence on food, economic factors, historical summary of food in Australia, Influences on food selection, food habits and the evolution of Australian cuisine. To make sure that all the information that you are talking about is correct and to save you valuable time. I have included the answer booklet as well! There is a range of visual opportunities for students to show understanding, cloze passage activites, online research, survey, links to online films to answer questions about. For those in NSW this unit is built around the Focus Area of Food in Australia and covers the outcomes: 5.3.2 justifies food choices by analysing the factors that influence eating habits 5.5.1 selects and employs appropriate techniques and equipment for a variety of food-specific purposes 5.5.2 plans, prepares, presents and evaluates food solutions for specific purposes 5.6.1 examines the relationship between food, technology, and society

Linking Academic Achievement to Physical Activity and Healthy Eating

Linking Academic Achievement to Physical Activity and Healthy Eating

***NOTE: to do this activity, you will need to purchase healthy snacks for the students to taste*** This was an activity for my Year 8 form group, but would work over a range of year groups. I was tired of watching them eat unhealthy snacks all the time and not only wanted to introduce them to some healthier options, but to start explaining WHY we are always going on about healthy eating and exercise from an academic point of view. The activity: Print out the checklist (slide 4) for each student. Set up all the different snacks around the classroom. (Adjust the snacks on the checklist as needed). Students go around to all the different stations and fill out their checklist. By the end, they will hopefully have identified a few healthier snack options which they like (and which will be better for them than their usual crisps and chocolate bars!)

A to Z mini-guide to women's health is an holistic reference book

A to Z mini-guide to women's health is an holistic reference book

This book is essential reading for women of all ages. It's a useful educational tool as it's alphabetical and thoroughly researched. My main objective in compiling this information was to inspire women to take responsibility for their own physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Teenagers can be encouraged to learn about the choices that will maintain health, by informing them about correct diet, nutrition and the benefits of regular exercise. This way they will live longer, pain free and more active lives. I have included chapters on sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, women's anatomy and hormonal changes. The chapters on drugs, alcohol, sugar and debt highlight the pitfalls of excess so that they can make informed choices. The book states that decisions you make can adversely affect your life. Issues that are now in mainstream news are mentioned in the book. These include self respect, body image, the adverse affects of social media, pornography and the repercussions and expectation for teenage girls. Finally, the chapters about love, kindness, gratitude and inspirational readings link to mental and spiritual awareness and health.
