Humanism

Humanism

A lesson that explores what Humanism is, including descriptions, embedded videos, exploration of controversy surrounding Richard Dawkins and independent learning activities and discussions. Also, for the creatives out there, an extension which involves writing a rap. Learning questions include: What is Humanism? What do Humanists believe? What are the challenges of believing in Humanism? Extension: Is Humanism a religion? This is intended to help students explore and think with nuance about Humanism, the role of religion in the modern world (if indeed it has any), and is differentiated in its tasks: each question gets increasingly difficult and there are differentiated targets for video clips and activities.

Eduqas 9-1 New Specification. Issues of Good and Evil unit. Punishment and Justice

Punishment and Justice. This resource has been designed with differentiation in mind and includes a range of activities such as videos and literacy work. The focus of this double lesson is punishment and justice with reference to recent statistics taken from the Prison Reform Trust. Topics including restorative justice, punishment and Christian attitudes are included. The aim is to lead students into the area of study with an understanding of differing views on the subject. The activities are colour coded to match the objectives so that students understand the progress that is being made throughout and promotes an element of independence. The plenary uses a video clip that links topics studied over the previous lessons and gives an insight into the next lesson on the death penalty.

The lesson has been fully resourced to a high standard with a range of differentiated tasks (using the good, better, best system). The lesson is designed to challenge the students as well as make them familiar with new concepts, knowledge and how to apply their learning to the exam. I will be adding lessons on a weekly basis so please keep looking! If you choose to use this resource I would really appreciate a review.
