According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops: “The Church encourages Catholics to make reading the Bible part of their daily prayer lives. Reading these inspired words, people grow deeper in their relationship with God and come to understand their place in the community God has called them to in himself.” (http://www.usccb.org/bible/understanding-the-bible/index.cfm)
In addition to Catholic Scripture for reflection -- these quick writes contain imperative study topics for Confirmation including: The Nicene Creed, The Apostle’s Creed, The Beatitudes, The Ten Commandments and relevant Sacred Scriptures: The Rich Man and Lazarus, The Money Changers in the Temple, The Last Judgment, Jesus Announces His Mission, 1 Corinthians 15:47, and The Temptation.

What is a Quick Write: The University of West Virginia describes a Quick Write as “a literacy strategy which can be used in any content area to develop writing fluency, to build the habit of reflection into a learning experience, and to informally assess student thinking. The strategy asks learners to respond in 2–10 minutes to an open-ended question or prompt posed by the teacher. (https://wvde.state.wv.us/strategybank/QuickWrites.html).
May be used in classrooms as a blackline master, but works best if each student has his or her own book to reflect back on. Books available at Amazon or other major book outlets: ISBN 978-1541045194

Instructions for “I Cans”: Keep “I Cans” in folders or have students attach them into their Interactive Notebooks. As standards are mastered, have students check off what they think they know. Periodically collect them from students and add your own initials. These “I Cans” are a concrete way for students, parents and teachers know exactly what is expected and what a student has mastered. They are great for conferences, student study teams, IEPs and 504s as well.
