A great resource to get learners excited about Chinese New Year 2016! Question Answer Relationship (QAR) is a great technique for encouraging and improving reading comprehension with students. http://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/question_answer_relationship The resource includes 11 questions (answers included) for students to answer based on Spring Festival fact files (access to the internet is required). This resource has been thoroughly designed so no extra prep or specialised ability is needed! It can help form a standalone literacy lesson or can be left as a cover lesson. The activities should last between 30 minutes. Can be easily adapted to suit other lessons you may have already planned. This lesson should be accessible to years 7-8. QAR is a reading strategy that can be implement as a whole school program, as QAR can be used for any text type in any subject for all year levels. QAR enables teachers to provide higher order comprehension question for any texts studied in their subject. It’s perfect for time poor staff and allows staff to create differentiated comprehension activities. The resource includes: - PowerPoint introduction/training lesson - Practice activity - Training script - Poster 1 highlights the 4 levels of comprehension questions and where the student will find the answer. - Poster 2 and 3 highlight and prompt student as to where to locate answers to comprehension questions and develop these skills so they can apply them in other settings. - Poster 4 highlights the types of questions for each level and how to answer the questions from each level. The PowerPoint is to introduce the concepts of QAR to staff and the posters are designed to be general so that they can be used with any text studied in any subject.
