The following unit of work is based on statutory requirements found in the
science curriculum for Years 3 and 4. The requirements lend themselves to
interactive drama work that will reinforce important concepts about digestion,
nutrition and how the human body moves. Below you will find four lesson plans
that detail opportunities for class, group, paired and individual movement work.
Guidance is also given as to how these activities could be useful for assessment
purposes. A large space such as the hall would be the most suitable space for
activities, but adaptations could be made for a classroom with desks and chairs
pushed to the side. The unit of work was published in Teaching Drama magazine, Autumn 1, 2016/2017.
The Famous Inventors Project is one that aims to bring Enterprise in Education together with other curricular areas, focusing on S.T.E.A.M. The purpose of the project is for children to learn about Famous Inventors, select a famous and life changing invention to redevelop and design for use in the future then develop and run a mock business to make and market their product. The project culminates in a day of presentations and pitches, allowing the children to demonstrate their learning over the course of the project. This project not only meets many of the experiences and outcomes of the CfE/NC, but can help children develop towards the four capacities, as well as giving a real and relevant context to their learning with a perceivable goal to work towards.

In this race against the clock students work as a team to build the highest tower possible out of dried spaghetti and marshmallows.
The objective of this lesson is to explore structures and investigate what methods of building can make the tallest and strongest structure. By testing their prototype buildings, students will also have the opportunity to rebuild and alter their designs to improve them, giving an insight into the real-life processes of testing, redevelopment and prototyping that engineers and scientists use.
This unit of work had been designed to compliment the SUNFLOWERS SCIENCE/LITERACY - UNIT OF WORK. These units of work include everything you will ever need to complete a topic on Sunflowers. This part of the unit covers the Numeracy/Art aspects of the topic with close links to Science. Numeracy has a Powerpoint presentation that starts the investigation into Fibonacci patterns. There is also activities that cover; measuring and shape sorting activities, estimating and fun money/costing activities. An enrichment Art activity explores the 15 Sunflowers by Van Gogh and the pupils are then challenged to solve some thought provoking time/date related word problems.This work can be completed in class or set as an extended homework activity.

I used this in Computing lessons as an example for the Y6s to create their own adventure type game and plan a sequence. The maths content is not aimed at UKS2.

This was completed as part of a Parent's Engagement Session.
Lessons based on the idea that Dr Evil is going to attempt to take over the world and only YOUR class can stop him. Embed the first video into a powerpoint and have Dr Evil suddenly appear in the middle to kick start it all, and then your children will be ordering henchmen into a Most Wanted list, order them on Evil Street, work out catering for the evil convention, create a model of the device, and eventually destroy it. The final Dr Evil video shows the kids they have defeated him. Some of the final resources are missing and due to a computer meltdown I no longer have them. Sorry!
This is my brand new STEM packet for 5th grade, all about Island Survival. This packet is a 4 week long activity, designed around 3 different experiments that tie in the Common Core Standards. The experiments include:
Designing and Building a Water Filtration System
Growing Seeds in Soil and Water using Fresh Water and Salt Water
Building a Raft
Students will also be required to document their progress through photos and video, so that they can create a multimedia presentation at the end of the project.

Simple instructions for creating your own comics using the drawing tools in Microsoft Word. This is a fun and imaginative way to teach English language essentials such as visual literacy, story writing and dialogue (both external and internal) to middle school students. It may also prove useful as a means of story boarding drama and multimedia projects or exploring social interactions.
