Die Olympischen Spiele 2016 Rio

Die Olympischen Spiele 2016 Rio

Powerpoint which presents key vocabulary to do with sports at the Olympics, as well as pushing students to write complex, then very complex, sentences about why they might want to (not) see certain events or visit the games. Should cover a whole lesson, depending on your lesson length and what else you do, of course, hence I´ve put it as a whole lesson, rather than a presentation. Note - this is adapted (only slightly!) from the version already on here that I made for the London 2012 Olympics, so you might recognise a lot of it!

Developing speaking in German: Shrink me, grow me!

Developing speaking in German: Shrink me, grow me!

A way of modeling and encouraging extended answers. Model a lengthy sentence, and students must take turns to remove one element but leave the sentence 'intact' (i.e. still sensical) until they get down to the most basic structure. Then it's their turn to build up again from a basic structure, element by element. Some students will want to race ahead and put in 5 things at once - this is ok if they can do it correctly; if not, encourage them to go step by step. The example here is on the topic of environment/Umwelt.

Excellent reading/speaking activity 'FOOTBALL'

Excellent reading/speaking activity 'FOOTBALL'

Fabulous reading / speaking fun!! Adapted from an excellent english resource (from a colleague, I don't know the original, I'm sorry...). This can be adapted for any MFL and ability. Create a text document / print a webpage etc of suitable reading, about three/four paras is good. Pupils have up to 20 mins free access to dictionaries / online dictionaries. Help with idioms or complex language as needed. Then once ready, teams of equal ability (max. 4). One student starts to read and can be 'tackled' after 10 words for the definition / spelling etc. All instructions are in German and English but is completely adaptable. Pupils must shout 'tackle' or 'goal' in TL. Extremely good fun, have a whistle ready as referee!!

Speak, Write and Play In German

Speak, Write and Play In German

Are you learning German? Are you looking for a fun way to learn German? I have developed a way to learn different languages based on my experience as an ESL teacher. This pack has 57 different settings for students to talk about in German. The worksheets themselves are in English and the students do need to translate the places and objects they see into German. At the end of the session, the students can play a fun game of word bingo to show they have mastered that day's vocabulary. Try it, it is a lot of fun for everyone! * Please note - these resources provide visual prompts, not specific language instruction. German Bingo pack: This is a simple starter game for students. There are 114 different pictures to choose from. Select a single picture and project the image on the wall or share it with the class as a hand-out. Let's Talk in German!: This set of cards looks at 57 different settings. The teacher describes something in the top card. The students then use this to model a sentence using the bottom set of pictures. There are lots of things to see and describe in every picture. When the students have completed this task, they can repeat it by working in pairs to discuss each picture. Let's Write in German pack: There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning German. The students could write about a topic in German before and then after a topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic.
