This fully resourced lesson is for those teaching Hinduism as a comparative religion at GCSE level. It is the second in our seven-lesson Hinduism unit for Theme B: ‘Religion & Life’ and focuses on Hindu views, teachings and beliefs about abortion. It was designed with the AQA Religious Studies specification in mind, but relevant to all GCSE Religious Studies teachers covering Hinduism. The lesson features starters, learning objectives, key-words, key-information, a colour double-sided A3 worksheet, AfL tasks, discussion and debate tasks and homework. Freedom City Comics learning framework

Freedom City Comics presents snapshots of the history of civil rights and politics on Tyneside. Each chapter focuses on a different era of the history of people and events in Newcastle and the North East. In addition to the free 16-page comic (https://research.ncl.ac.uk/fccomics/readthecomic/), we’ve worked with teachers to make this learning framework for KS2 and KS3. All the activities are designed as springboards for your own projects, lessons, and activities. End of Term Tutor Time / PSHCE

A fun and creative Citizenship / Tutor Time project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, old clothes, felt tips and a any other boxes/construction materials you can find (just things that would usually be thrown in the recycling). The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous political icon (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free PSHCE lessons over the coming months. Judicial Branch ESCAPE ROOM: Supreme Court, U.S. Constitution

Judicial Branch Escape Room Activity: The Judicial Branch Escape Room will take students on a secret mission around the classroom! This escape room has students decode interesting facts about the United States Judicial Branch, the Supreme Court and Article III of the Constitution. The students will read real excerpts from the U.S. Constitution. The Judicial Branch Escape Room has students walking around the classroom breaking codes. The codes include ciphers, Morse code, cryptograms and a final 4 digit code based on the decoders/clues. Each clue and code is different. The codes require students to think differently to decipher or decode them. Some codes are easier than others. Some codes require critical thinking to determine what a letter/symbol stands for. Each code will reveal interesting facts about the Judicial Branch. The use of secret code will keep your students engaged while competing to find the final code. Students can report the final code to you. If you wanted to, you could purchase a 4 digit lock that you program, but it is not necessary at all! No props needed!! This is a NO PREP, PRINT & GO Activity! The best age range for this resource is 8+. Please look at the preview to determine if this resource works for your age group. Younger students may need some help with some of the more difficult codes. You can use the pre-labeled clues or you can challenge older kids to choose/find the decoder that works for each of the clues. A set of labeled and non-labeled decoders are included for differentiation. A “How to Decode” puzzles is also included. ‘Getting It Together: From Colonies to Federation’ is a middle years resource provided by the Museum of Australian Democracy. This extensive resource examines Australia’s journey to federation using historical sources such as newspaper extracts, cartoons, speeches and biographies. Students can use ‘Getting It Together’ to actively discover and explore the story of Federation – the social and political journey that led the people of six separate colonies to agree on a Constitution, which brought the nation of Australia and its Federal Parliament into being in 1901. While investigating the past, students are also engaged with issues affecting Australia’s development and identity today and into the future. ‘Getting it Together’ is organised into seven packages each containing a series of activities for students to explore in the classroom. This package, ‘The National Story,’ brings all of the colonial stories together. Other packages focus on New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.
