Video: Poulty farming - the rearing farm

Video: Poulty farming - the rearing farm

In this video you will see chickens being reared to lay eggs. This is the beginning of the production of chicken for restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Chicken production begins at a rearing farm. The rearing farm produces a healthy flock of birds to lay eggs which will be sent to a hatchery. A range of breeds are reared on the farm. One day old chicks are brought to the farm and are fed a special diet, along with water. The birds are weighed regularly to keep an eye on their health. The birds are also given medicine to protect them from diseases. The health and welfare of the chickens is very important to the farmer. To keep the chickens healthy the workers wear protective clothing, change and clean their boots and clean their hands. The birds and the equipment are checked at least three times a day to make sure the chickens are being kept in good conditions. Suitable for children aged 8-11 years of age.

Lions informative writing non chronological report and word search

Lions informative writing non chronological report and word search

This animated Power Point resource showcases the lion and informs students about a multitude of interesting facts surrounding this magnificent creature. The pupils learn about the symbolic significance of the lion as well as scientific details. They will discover lions in ancient art works, on national flags and displayed on coats of arms. They will learn the differences between male and female lions and some amazing statistics about these magnificent animals. Included in this resource are comprehension questions, a word search and further information about hybrids such as ligers and tigons. Students have the opportunity to think creatively and produce their own hybrids and draw scientific diagrams of their favourites. There is plenty here to promote further discussion and wider research. This resource would be useful when producing informative writing and non chronological reports. Alongside the Power Point is a word document which could be used independently as a homework task perhaps. All answers are included on the word document. Suitable for ages 10+
