Writing challenge: Environment/Exchanges + verb guide

Writing challenge: Environment/Exchanges + verb guide

I created this to surreptitiously get my year 9s to rehash a piece of writing they did in an exam. The task was to write a letter home about their German exchange experience - their German exchange partner is Detlev, whose family are incredibly environmentally friendly (no heating, no electricity(!)). This challenge allows all students to create an end-product by choosing one of the three on offer (article, interview, poster). On the back is a colour-coded guide to verb forms and word order (present tense, modal/future structure, and verb-comma-verb/subordination.

Die Umwelt & Obdachlos

Die Umwelt & Obdachlos

End of topic fun activity sheet based on Echo 3 Rot - one worksheet with a word-search, crossword, jumbled words and "how many can you find" picture. I tend to use it either as part of a carousel or during speaking assessment lessons.

Umwelt / Environment - Speaking Game

Umwelt / Environment - Speaking Game

This is a resource based on the card game Cheat, which I adapted to practise speaking about environmental issues. The game is very competitive and my classes have always enjoyed it. Rules included. I recommend printing onto card so that the students can't see through the paper...

KS3/4 German: Environment/Umwelt in 3 tenses (Present, Future, Perfect)

KS3/4 German: Environment/Umwelt in 3 tenses (Present, Future, Perfect)

A couple of help sheets and activities on the topic of the environment which revise the use of three different tenses. Based on Echo 3 Rot K4E4 Umweltschutz (pp.66-67). Included are: - helpsheet of sentence builders on present tense (ich-form); - helpsheet of sentence builders in three tenses, plus hints on how to use and extend them (NB the same verbs are used in all three tenses) (all in wir-form); - set of sentences to translate into German (differentiation is in the 'level' on which students attempt the task - details on sheet. I devised this for my year 9 beginners' class. They found it tricky - I think the challenge would be there for learners who have more years of German behind them.

Probleme und Loesungen (environmental problems- Die Umwelt Edexcel/ AQA GCSE red textbook )

This whole lesson power point gets pupils to discuss environmental problems and possible solutions. After an initial picture starter in the new GCSE style (1-9) it explores environmental problems vocab to explore a listening, then it explores the use of accusative with prepositions (also the wechselprepositionen with dative and accusative) and at the end a very engaging group discussion activity. The worksheet contains the differentiated listening questions! This was judged ggod with outstanding features for lesson observation!

Nature: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Nature: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words related to nature (20 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task. - The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks. - The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed.
