GCSE Spanish grammar booklet - Cuaderno de gramática

GCSE Spanish grammar booklet - Cuaderno de gramática

This is a reduced, simplified and printing-budget friendly of this resource: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-gcse-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11939611 The content of the booklets is very similar and they both provide a very detailed overview of the grammar needed for the new GCSE course, divided into three parts (Theme 1, Theme 2 and Theme 3). Each part has two sections, one devoted to verbs and the other one to other lexical categories. Both books contain a lot of examples and activities for the students. This version of the booklet takes into account that printing budget can be tight, so I have re formated the original, 62-page booklet, and taken out a few examples, so it is now 37 pages (the last three being verb tables that can be printed separately), but it still contains detailed explanations of a variety of grammatical structures, a lot of examples and a lot of activities. Content: THEME 1 Part 1 – Articles, nouns, adjectives, prepositions, adverbs and pronouns Nouns Articles Contractions Adjectives Comparatives and superlatives Por and para Negatives Questions Possessive adjectives Direct object pronouns Part 2 – Verbs Ser and estar Conjugating verbs The present tense 13a. Regular verbs 13b. Irregular verbs 13c. Reflexive verbs 13d. Gustar The Preterite The Imperfect Opinions in different tenses THEME 2 Part 1 – Adjectives and pronouns Demonstrative adjectives and pronouns Possessive Pronouns Part 2 – Verbs The Future Simple The Conditional The Preterite v. The Imperfect The Present Subjunctive Uses of the Subjunctive The Imperative (Commands) The Infinitive THEME 3 Part 1 – Adverbs and prepositions 26. Personal a 27. Quantifiers Part 2 – Verbs 28. Present continuous 29. Present Perfect 30. If clauses 31. The Subjunctive – Further practice 32. Verb tables N.B. - Please ignore the Word preview of the resource - it does not look like that! To get a good idea of what the resource actually looks like, have a look at the PDF version or the screen captures (for some reason previews of word files alter the format of the resource, but this is only the preview).

Spanish GCSE Grammar Booklet - Cuaderno de gramática.

Spanish GCSE Grammar Booklet - Cuaderno de gramática.

This 62-page long booklet contains a very comprehensive summary of the grammar required to succeed in the new GCSE course. It is divided in three sections, one for each theme of the new GCSE, and withing each of those there are two parts, one dedicated to verbs and one dedicated to all the other lexical categories. Each entry of the booklet focuses on one aspect of grammar, with a brief explanation of how to use the structure that is being covered, the rules and exceptions that need to be taken into account, and a variety of examples. This is always followed by an “Ahora practica” section with activities for the students to complete. Whenever possible, the examples and activities match the theme that the specific structure has been included under (e.g., the majority of examples and activities used to study the present tense will be related to the topics from theme 1 - relationships, technology, leisure and festivals). A free sample of this resource (the section on ser and estar) can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-grammar-ser-and-estar-11939670 And the final pages of the booklet, with the verb tables: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-verb-tables-11940354

Role-play: opinions on TV / movies - Spanish - AQA KS3/KS4 GCSE (Role-play)

Role-play: opinions on TV / movies - Spanish - AQA KS3/KS4 GCSE (Role-play)

This is a lesson on TV shows for an early GCSE Spanish class which can be used with a higher year 8 students. The lesson starter is a recap on some simple concepts (articles / gender / adjectival agreement/ spelling) to wake the students up followed by phonics practice (resiting tongue twister!). Then I included a mini-test to recap / check whether students remember topic-related vocabulary. Then they get to revise topic words via online quizlet activity. Students are to choose what quizlet task they want to do based on their level therefore this engaging task is differentiated. Then I have included a game - Roll-A-Word - Students roll a dice to complete different tasks related to the new and / or familiar words (both learning and revising). They count the value of the completed dices to make the task more competitive. Then they revise question words and how to form different types of questions in Spanish. They then jot their thoughts on a Role Play task in pairs (using grammar help - note: we use VCOP mat so if you have one you will need to change the numbers of the grammar points, if not you need to delete few bits, the examples of structures are provided anyway) and complete in in writing individually . Then their ‘Time Pair Share’ the Role Play and self/peer -assess their work by way of analising the success criteria (you might want to show it prior to the task for the novices). Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas! Enjoy!

Gustar pattern multi sensory practice.

Gustar pattern multi sensory practice.

Explanation of one of the most common patterns in Spanish. Essential to master the true expression of complex opinions and complex questions. The activity is multimodal, combining audio, speaking, moving and seeing. Check the free sample with the instructions attached. It includes the models and a sample of sentences to translate with each model. The idea is that students master the pattern in order to free themselves to express whatever they may want to say. It makes for endless hours of practice with students totally engaged. Students queue and love coming to the board to point. It may need some previous practice to get the dynamic going. Students are amazed by truly understanding and being able to use verbs such as importar, dar, hacer, the conditional forms of gustar, encantar, etc.

Gustar pattern. Multi sensory practice. Free sample.

Gustar pattern. Multi sensory practice. Free sample.

This is a sample. The paid for resource has 12 pannels using verbs like gustar, dar, hacer, costar, interesar, importar and encantar. It is great to make students really master the use of complex opinions and to express what they want, rather than learning chunks by memory and then making mistakes when they want to say something more original. Ideal of dyslexic students and to clarify one of the most challenging but also most frequent patterns in Spanish. The words are arranged in morphological categories. One student comes with a pointer to the board and points at a sentence- either that they create, either that the teacher has asked to translate. Each word needs to be said aloud at the same time the pointer lands on it. The rest of the class can join in the chanting, or can volunteer either to point new sentences they can think about, or to give the person doing the pointing a new sentence to translate and point. Students from year 7 to year 13 love it. I have had queues to come and point. To keep classroom management, it is important to combine the pointing with some writing (write as many sentences as you can with the model, or translate the sentences from the board/piece of paper).

KS3/GCSE Spanish-MAT-La serpiente del habla (Jobs)-independent Speaking/Writing (differentiated)

KS3/GCSE Spanish-MAT-La serpiente del habla (Jobs)-independent Speaking/Writing (differentiated)

This is a differentiated Speaking / Writing exercise that I tend to use every half-term to encourage spontaneous speaking / writing. It is a variation of a trap door exercise that can be adapted for every topic as only topic specific vocabulary changes (not connectives / frequencies / opinions). This particular mat is to speak / write on the topic of (Future) Jobs / Employment plans. Enjoy!

AVOCADOS Display

AVOCADOS Display

A display based on the AVOCADOS mnemonic. It is bright, clear, and constantly referred to by my pupils during lessons, whether that be during reading, listening, speaking or writing. I absolutely love this display, as do my pupils. There are some very minor errors - English/Spanish swapped round for instance, but they are easily rectifiable. I will not be updating the PowerPoint as it was time-consuming enough to make it in the first place. Please do let me know if you convert the template into other languages - I’d love to see! Enjoy!

AQA GCSE (KS4) / KS3 VCOP - Spanish Literacy Mat

AQA GCSE (KS4) / KS3 VCOP - Spanish Literacy Mat

This a VCOP / Literacy Mat that I have prepared for my KS3 and KS4 classes. I prepared it to reflect AQA examination criteria however I believe Spanish language does not change in-between different examination organisations so can be used for different ability students studying for different types of exams. It covers 39 different grammar structures including main verb tenses and popular structures that I recommend my students use for their writing, speaking and reading practice (and learn to identify when listening). It is partially differentiated (see groups highlighted in 3 colours - blue for Core, green for Extension, red for Killer). Parts of the mat with green background represent the most popular verb tenses and verbal structures. I have included the most useful (in my point of view) opinions, adverbs, exclamations, connectives, linking expressions, quantifiers, time expressions, question words, V1 + V2 structures, subjunctive and conditional phrases, gerunds and few more expressions that worth few shiny points if used during the exam. I have considered it would be useful to include the endings and explanation on how to follow adjectival agreement rules, use correct articles and pronouns. In relation to verb tenses, providing there is not as much space as it seems to be, I have included the verb tables for present simple (regular and irregular + self-reflexive), imperative, immediate (near) future, ‘will’ future, regular and irregular conditional, past simple, imperfect and past perfect (for those who are truly passionate about grammar. If you wish to add something just amend / move few boxes and you will be done. If printing, I would recommend to do so on A3 to ensure that all of the instructions are clearly visible. Note: to remove ‘Preview’ just select it and delete - it is just one text box. Let me know how it goes and what you think!

Spanish Grammar / Vocabulary Games KS3/KS4/GCSE - Foundation and Higher

Spanish Grammar / Vocabulary Games KS3/KS4/GCSE - Foundation and Higher

This is a collection of grammar games that I decided to share. I would use them for pretty much all age groups, both KS3 and KS4, GCSE both tiers. They can be easily amended to suit the grammar topics that you wish to reinforce / revise / introduce. The templates can also be easily reused for French. See enclosed: Snakes and ladders slide (you can amend the squares and it is short enough to serve as a 5-10 minutes activity; Tarsia slide and template - an activity to use to revise topic / key vocabulary. Students can either create their own or just cut the one you prepare for them. They need to then match the words / expressions in English with their Spanish equivalents. The dice game to revise verbs conjugations (differentiated). I included a slide with rules of the game, a template to create your own and an origami instructions to make it more hands on. Photo card scrabble (related to AQA GCSE speaking / writing tasks). I originally thought of this as a game prior to completing an exam task for KS4 students. The pack includes a slide and a scrabble board if you wish to organise an extended activity. Students need to come up with words related to the image, the words should contain 3 or more letters and they should be in Spanish! Dice conjugation (differentiated) - I would mostly suggest it for KS4 students as it is easier to differentiate. Students have a board with verbs and they need to roll dices to ascertain the personal pronoun that they apply to the infinitive on the board. My students totally loved it! One dice, one pen (un dado, un boli) - (differentiated, AQA Reading Section C / Writing Part 3 Higher / Foundation) - Students roll dice in turns to translate the sentence correctly! If the partner throws 3 he takes over a pen. The winner is the one who collected the most points. I used it with KS4 to facilitate the exam translation tasks. I also included a set of slides that I used to emphasize certain grammar points. Let me know how it goes!

GCSE Spanish Revision Blockbusters

A resource made for a revision day, which could be used in a number of ways. Primarily the idea is to play Blockbusters, once laminated and stuck to a whiteboard. Slide 1 is a vocabulary sheet they could look at for a minute to memorise before you start.
