Students watch the short film, Into the Middle of Nowhere by Anna Frances Ewert, which follows a group of young children as they engage in imaginative play at an outdoor nursery in Scotland.
In this lesson, students consider how interacting with nature can help young people develop confidence, creativity, and resilience. Students examine their personal habits regarding time spent outdoors vs. time spent indoors (particularly with electronics) and reflect on their own unique relationships with the natural world. Reflective writing prompts are also included for students to demonstrate their understanding of the story.
