Today’s resource looks at cards with calculations on. Students are then asked to calculate the probability of choosing a randomly selected card and it having a certain property. What I really like about this resource is it means students can practise their number calculations with BIDMAS, test them on their understanding of types of numbers, all whilst answering a probability question. This would be a good resource for a year 7 class and encompasses fluency reasoning and problem solving. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

These are the 6 Assessments that run in tandem with the ‘1 Year SoW GCSE Maths Foundation for Edexcel 9-1 - Including all lessons & resources!’ that is available here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/1-year-sow-gcse-maths-foundation-for-edexcel-9-1-including-all-lessons-and-resources-11893067 There are 6 assessments: an initial baseline test, 2 Progress Tests (mainly based on recent learning) and then 3 Mock Papers. I have decided to keep these resources free partly because we are planning on re-designing a couple of the tests for this year anyway. If you use them please bear in mind we found that Progress Test 1 and to a certain extent Progress Test 2 appear to be a bit easier than intended so you may need to raise the grade boundaries for them.

Introductory activity to the use of averages and range for Functional Skills or GCSE Maths students. Certainly helps the methods and the maths to stick. M&M activity provides practice finding measures of mean, median, mode and Range, with the opportunity to develop skills when developing a chart to display data. Easily adaptable to suit your differentiation needs. Learners initially work in pairs, but the activity eventually involves working together as a whole group to compare the different amounts. There is a student booklet with detailed notes and spaces for them to fill in the solutions to the examples. A separate teacher booklet contains full worked solutions for all examples.
