Un groupe de musiciens. Year 7. Developing reading and translation skills.

I have designed this to support my year 7 in developing reading/ writing / translating skills. I started with the text ( pair work competition : each pupil has a different colour pen, the first to circle the translation in French in the text wins the point and it is quite visual at the end who is fastest . Great fro competition The other activities involve finding translations, matching up for lower ability and extending sentences from the given text. The last slide on the Power Point contains a writing list of bullet points ( goes with Studio 1 ’ il est hypercool’ but can be adapted for other courses. I owe Rachel Hawkes a big thank you for inspiring the Power Point slides offering differentiation when sentence building on mini whiteboards. I hope it is useful.

30 French speaking prompt question cards - Le Petit Prince

30 French speaking prompt question cards - Le Petit Prince

Use these insightful and thought provoking question cards to trigger great discussions among your students about the wonderful book by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, le Petit Prince. Use the cards to teach them the vocabulary if you want. This activity is a fun way to encourage your students to speak more and engage in conversation. It is a perfect resource to use in immersion, core or homeschool curriculums. You will have to read and study the book prior to using these questions. You can use these cards after teaching specific vocabulary and grammar for le Petit Prince or as a fun interactive activity on a day when you want to just focus on speaking and reviewing vocabulary in a different way. Read on to find out the many ways I like to use these cards including the popular SCOOT game. Instructions and recording sheet are included. All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities. Included: ➱ 30 speaking prompt cards - color (4 per page to print and cut out) ➱ 30 speaking prompt cards - grayscale ➱ PDF version to project and avoid printing (1 card per page to project) ➱ 9 different ways to use these cards ➱ Scoot game instructions ➱ Scoot recording sheet There are many ways you can use these cards: ✫ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions. ✫ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing. ✫ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ✫ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements. ✫ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer. ✫ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards. ✫ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included. ✫ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move. ✫ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays. ✫ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

French Taboo game - Le Petit Prince

French Taboo game - Le Petit Prince

Playing games and having fun is when learning really happens in French class. I love to play the game Taboo with my students. French Taboo is a game that is easy to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. This Taboo set is about the wonderful and delightful classic story of the Petit Prince written by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. This Taboo set Special le Petit Prince edition includes 167 Vocabulary words translated as well as files in French only. Great for Immersion schools! Object of the game One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can’t use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. The teams take turn guessing and verifying no Taboo words have been used. You can also play this game in pairs if everyone agrees not to cheat. Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration! ✍Mardi: Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them color it. ✍Mercredi: Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft.
