18 lessons – ‘D-Day Dog’ by Tom Palmer – Year 4/5/6 – English planning
A whole English teaching sequence linked to the book D-Day Dog by Tom Palmer (Winner of the FCBG Children’s Book Award 2020). Ideal for Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6 children.
There are 18 lessons planned, all with SMART Notebook screens, task sheets and header sheets where applicable.
There are a total of 103 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) and each lesson is clearly marked, along with details about which lesson chapters should be read, to aid and link to the learning.
(Update 14/4/2021 – I have also converted the SMART Notebook screens so that they are all available as a Powerpoint file – I would recommend using the SMART Notebook screens as they are more interactive).
This sequence includes a varied range of planned activities:
- Researching World War II and D-Day
- Writing an information text
- Emotive writing using images
- Blackout poetry
- Writing a diary entry.
It will also provide the children an understanding of wars past and present, and the difficult decisions faced by those involved.
This book is very enjoyable with a good story that will get the children thinking. The activities planned will allow the children to immerse themselves in the story thoroughly and provide opportunities to produce a range of high-quality writing.
It's good to leave some feedback.
