Valentine Paper Bag Letter Box :: Easy and quick So many possibilities and extensions. An easy to make Valentine Letter Box that is perfect for Valentine Card exchanges. Many variations for your kids to design their own unique Letter Box. Mix and match options can easily differentiate creativity abilities in the classroom. I have used this simple craft in my room for years. Every year we create these Valentine Letter Boxes. On Valentine’s Day the kids come in with their Valentine cards and delight in reading the names on the cards and delivering them to their correct Letter Box. Once the chaos is completed and all the Valentine cards are hand-out all I have to do is staple up the roof together and Voila! Valentines are packed up and ready to go home. Kids love creating these easy Letter Boxes. Check out the preview of the templates and easy to follow instructions. Year of the Dog Chinese Lanterns A creative way to decorate your classroom for Chinese New Year on February 16th, 2018. Dogs hanging from the ceiling or sitting on the shelf, your kiddos will love creating and putting on their own personal touches on these Chinese New Year cuties. These Lunar New Year units are designed in a Mix & Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students. There are so many different possibilities to create your Year of the Dog lantern. Each Chinese lantern creation is designed with a printed lantern template and a blank template. Blank templates are intended for your kids to come up with their own designs or you can have your kids color, cut out and glue on the Dog faces. These Chinese lantern crafts are great for developing fine motor skills, following the directions and listening skills. I currently teach Kindergarten and my little ones love creating lanterns. I just teach each step in isolation and then put it all together. This is a great activity for buddy classes to work on…again teach the steps in isolation and then put it together. With my buddy class, these lanterns will take a few sessions to complete. In addition, 6 activity worksheets included to enhance learning about the Year of the Dog and Chinese New Year. Artist research page: Damien Hirst response - Insects - Painting

This lesson is an introduction into Damien Hirst’s insect mandalas. It is designed to lead new GCSE students through the process of artist research, analysis and response, covering A01 & A02 criteria. Students are lead through a painted response of one of Hirst’s butterflies using acrylic. The lesson consists of: a starter challenge; objectives; step by step instruction sheets with differentiated learning outcomes as well as annotation sentence starters, ‘Apex’ challenges for the most able and a plenary. There are printable resources at the end of the power-point. This lesson would fit well into the context of Natural Forms.

Artist research page - Poul Beckmann Living Jewells - Natural Forms, Insects.

This a three lesson power-point based on the photographic series: Living Jewells by Poul Beckmann. It is designed to lead new GCSE students through the process of artist research, analysis and response, covering A01 & A02 criteria. Students are lead through a written analysis as well as practical colour analysis with oil pastels. Students can follow step by step instructions to draw insects from observation, using oil pastel/ chalk pastel and/or ink. The lessons consists of: a starter challenge; objectives; step by step instruction sheets with differentiated learning outcomes, analysis questions as well as examples of answers and ‘Apex’ challenges for the most able. The lessons would fit nicely into the context of Natural Forms. Ideally these lessons can be taught with the use of taxidermy insects incased in acrylic resin, however students could work from photos.

The lesson introduces students to the basic drawing formal elements of line and shape within the context of doodle art. Students are required to complete a starter task describing a Jon Burgerman painting and deciding upon a descriptive work as a group. Students then complete three line drawings of characters in the style of Jon Burgerman before completing a peer assessment. Students can the complete a larger final drawing in their sketchbooks / on paper.
