Earth's Seasons through Inquiry - Creative Thinking

This is my version of how I used to teach about seasons, with a focus on an inquiry through the use of photographs and data. (read notes on powerpoint for further guidance). Without teaching it directly or showing a video or doing the standard demo with a small tennis ball that no-one can see what is going on, use this alternative idea for teaching about the seasons. Use a demo/video at the end to consolidate the learning.

space - weight, mass, gravity

lesson from the space topic on the relationship between weight, mass and gravity. The lesson starts with a 'hook' video asking why people can walk on the moon and why they walk differently on the moon. The definitions of gravitational fields is clarified and pupils look how gravity is reduced as distance increases. The pupils learn the weight, mass and gravity formula triangle and do a progress check on these with additional extension work on rearranging the formula. The main body of the lesson then involves a circus activity, where pupils do a scavenger hunt of visiting different planets, obtaining the gravitational field strengths there and then calculating their wight on different planets. There is a progress check and then a choice plenary. All printing included. Should be a download and teach lesson.

NEW GCSE (1-9) All physics equation triangles made into flashcards with units - revision

I've created this for my year 11s, it consists of: - the 23 equations that year 11s have to memorize for their GCSE exams for the new specification in flashcards. -One side of the flash card will have questions e.g. Which equation links force, mass and acceleration, what are their units? Then the back of the card will have the answer including both in the form of an equation triangle and as a standard equation. - I have also added in extra questions throughout for some of the key ideas associated with those equations. - There is a two page cover sheet with some notes on how to best use the flash cards, and the physics equation sheet that the students will get in their exam. Students needs to learn the units of these equations (and obviously how to apply them!). I have included on the second page the physics equation sheet with units added to it to help them practice testing themselves on these. My style of teaching isn’t for everyone, I’m a dyslexic teacher who’s heard it all, my lessons are all catered towards accessibility (because if they were not I’d never be able to read them myself). Everything is short sharp and to the point, I don’t believe in endless writing, reams of printing, spoon feeding diagrams or pointless activities. Every minute matters! Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
