Five Freedoms for Animals Class Poster

Five Freedoms for Animals Class Poster

The five freedoms, sometimes known as Brambell’s five freedoms, are a compact of rights for animals under human control. The five freedoms were originally developed from a UK Government report on livestock husbandry in 1965. The five freedoms are used as the basis for the actions of professional groups, including vets, and have been adopted by representative groups internationally including the World Organisation for Animal Health. What are the Five Freedoms for Animals? Freedom from hunger or thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area Freedom from pain, injury or disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering

Meatless Mondays School Kit

Meatless Mondays School Kit

Meatless Mondays are a fun and easy way for green-conscious schools to reduce their carbon and water footprint, encourage healthy eating, and empower students to make informed food choices. This kit contains colourful and well laid out resources to help you launch a Meatless Mondays initiative in your school. KIT CONTAINS: poster, information sheet, 2-part activity sheets Canteen tips available on the ThinkKind website, search ‘Meatless Mondays’. Did you know it takes 2,393 litres of water to make just one hamburger, and 15,415 litres to make one steak? Animal agriculture requires a huge amount of land, food, energy, and water. The WorldWatch Institute estimates that a staggering 51 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture, and the United Nations has also urged everyone to eat less meat to combat global warming. For green conscious schools who invest a lot of time and effort into teaching students to use less electricity, walk to school instead of driving, and take shorter showers (all great initiatives), this information may come as a surprise. The impact that raising livestock has on the environment is not as widely known as other factors, such as transportation and burning fossil fuels. If your school is serious about treading lightly on the planet, teaching students about the importance of eating less meat is vital.

2 x Wordsearch Puzzle sheets on the theme of ‘Collective Nouns’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Parts Of A Horse - Montessori 3 Part Cards

Parts Of A Horse - Montessori 3 Part Cards

These are traditional Montessori reading classification cards. There are control cards with the image and word together, a separate image picture and a separate word label for the image. Children read and label the image and check their work with the control card. The card for the entire horse is in color. The “parts of” cards have the horse in gray scale with the featured part in light brown. The parts featured include the horse, torso or barrel (whichever you prefer as I have included both), neck, mane, ears, eyes, nostrils, forelegs, hindlegs and tail. I have also included a line drawing of the image for the children to use to make their own “parts of” booklet. Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my work! Mary

Favorite Animals - Montessori Matching Cards

Favorite Animals - Montessori Matching Cards

Do you sense a Favorite Animals theme? This is the latest in a series, joining classified cards and silhouettes cards. And these have been just so fun to make! To make this set more challenging, I’ve added a few new animals. In this set there are 12 animals for the children to match and play memory games. To make the material, print two copies of the photo pages. I don’t suggest using the draft setting as the results may be disappointing. Cut apart and laminate. Thank you so much for checking out my work! Mary
