Nuclear Bunkers: during the Cold War, and today

Nuclear Bunkers: during the Cold War, and today

Lesson 5 from the acclaimed teaching pack 'Dial M For Missile: Exploring Themes Around the Cuban Missile Crisis'. Following on from the lesson on Civil Defence, this lesson gives students an insight into the history of nuclear bunkers, and gets them to decide in small groups what items they would prioritise in a nuclear bunker to help them survive a nuclear attack. They can then create some of these items, and/or role-play being in the bunker. The lesson plan includes differentiation, extension and enrichment suggestions. The lesson is highly relevant to Citizenship, History, Art & Design, and Drama, as well as helping to meet SMSC, Prevent and British Values requirements. To browse and download the other lessons from the Dial M For Missile Pack pack, plus the pack as a whole (including endorsements), go to www.tes.com/teaching-resource/dial-m-for-missile-exploring-themes-around-the-cuban-missile-crisis-11208437

50 Artists Primary pupils should know

50 Artists Primary pupils should know

Famous Western Artists Primary K-6 pupils should know. By this I mean that they should have seen images by these artists and remember key details about when and where they lived. These artists could support work done in other subject areas. All dates are approximate. It is not suggested that Primary K-6 students should know every artist on this list, but rather that they should know and understand the main movements and how art has changed. There is a great activity I have written that does this called my art timeline game which is available to download free from my website. There are also too many brilliant artists not mentioned here that I have omitted to keep things simple. By the time we get to Contemporary art you can pretty much choose what you like! The resource contains a link to all the images you need via Google Art Institute.

Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen.
