It introduces the basic skills including how to conduct an investigation, how to record results, how to research and how to produce detailed time plans. Pupils are encouraged to work as a team for the investigation work then independently for a food preparation task.

Food Enrichment Session

Food Enrichment Session

I have designed this for a Year 7 group who will have three lessons of food as part of our schools Enrichment Week. The booklet contains a number of activities, ranging from food crosswords to build a burger challenges, but it also has a big focus on sustainability, where food is coming from, and looking at traditions like the British picnic. Students will also take part in practical work, I will be using two BBQ’s, and students are invited to bring in small amounts of foods like burgers, sausages and kebabs and learn how cook outside. Included is also an information letter for students/parents informing them of what will be going on.

9-1 Tracker Spreadsheet to show pupil progress and grade of AQA GCSE Technology

9-1 Tracker Spreadsheet to show pupil progress and grade of AQA GCSE Technology

A spreadsheet to help staff and pupils to keep a track on pupil progress in the NEW Technology GCSE from AQA. Coursework, Exam results and exam questions will all accumulate to give a predicted grade for the pupil. The grade boundaries are based on previous ones released by AQA I have spoken to them and unsurprisingly they do not as yet have any idea what these will be, but suggested that the one I have used will ‘do for now’. If you go to the LOOKUPS page you can edit these yourself if you feel they are too high or too low. I have found that pupils appreciate being able to graphically see the progress they are making, and this enables them to take more ownership of the project and become more independent.

WW2 Rationing Carrot Cookie Recipe

WW2 Rationing Carrot Cookie Recipe

An easy to follow recipe for carrot cookies using ingredients that would have been available during WW2 when rationing was happening. The recipe is true to original recipes that people used at the time and is a fantastic way to link History with cookery/DT/food technology and bring rationing to life for the children. We did this in small groups and each child got to taste their cookie once it was cooked. They are surprisingly delicious!

Rotations Organiser, How To organise and show progress over time in a folder.

Rotations Organiser, How To organise and show progress over time in a folder.

The main issues we had as a technology department is to show the students progress from one rotation to another. I have developed a ring bind folder organiser to help the teachers collate the information. The class Teacher can then hand the folder to the next teacher and it shows progress over time. Included in the document is a few templates. How to do rotations etc. You will store in the folder the following information Annual Rotation Class List (any new student this information requires updating by class teacher) Class Photos Seating Plan SOW (Class Teacher to assign their name next to the term) Class Analysis (Sisra) (Class Teacher to assign their name next to the term) Class Work Booklet (Class Teacher to assign their name next to the term) Homework Booklet (Class Teacher to assign their name next to the term)

Register Recaps - Lesson Starter Activities

Register Recaps - Lesson Starter Activities

5 Great lesson starter activities that can be adapted for ANY subject or curriculum. Activities are fun and focus on pupil choice for theory and literacy recap! Download the PowerPoint to use or adapt to suit your subject area. Brightly coloured with a simple layout: Knowledge Wheel: Students have to get from A-B by answering the questions correctly. However, if they want to get the most points, the must take the long route around, answering the more difficult coloured questions. This method gives students a choice and is differentiated for different levels of ability. Target Practice: Using 3 darts, students must select 3 questions to answer to try to get the most points. Question difficulty varies based on the number of points each colour is worth. Again, this method gives students a choice and is differentiated for different levels of ability. Keyword Scrabble: Students must figure out each of the keywords by answering the clues and matching the letters to the total number of points. This activity is a great way to check student understanding and correct spellings. Connect 4 Analysis: Students must connect 4 in a row, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. At the top of each column there is a product analysis heading. Student can only connect 4 if they correctly analyse the product based on the heading. For example: Analysis the function of the torch, iPhone, fidget spinner and washing machine. Analysing the aesthetics of the watch, consumer of the baby toy, function of the fidget spinner and material of the Xbox pad. The gives students a choice from a range of analysis categories. Vocab Snap: Students have 2 minutes to match the vocabulary word to its definition. Using a mini whiteboard they can write, 5E…1C etc. This is a great way of embedding keywords and literacy easily.

Food Lesson Responsibility Badges

Food Lesson Responsibility Badges

I had a class who found it difficult to organise themselves when it came to tidying up at the end of a practical lesson. I produced these tags which are laminated and then attached to students’ aprons with safety pins. They are arranged into teams with a choice of six responsibilities for each member.
