70 Fun Spelling Activities

70 Fun Spelling Activities

70 Spelling activities to reinforce weekly spelling words. Can be used with EYFS, KS1, KS2, and KS3. Here is a large collection of spelling activities that can be used with a range of ages without much editing. I have tried to make them as interesting as possible by using fancy fonts, colours, images and GiFs. I have attached a few screen shots of some of the activities. The activities work best when shown on an ActivInspire Flipchart because there are GiF images and files attached, however, I have also converted the slides to PDF so all can use them. Some pages require you to add the spelling words, some do not. Please feel free to edit as you wish and suggest ways that this resource can be improved. I hope you enjoy them and get use out of them.

How Do I Improve My Grades In GCSE English writing? PART 1 (14-16 years)

How Do I Improve My Grades In GCSE English writing? PART 1 (14-16 years)

59 pages A clear, concise revision guide to boost your grade, written by a tutor who is familiar with the requirements of the new GCSE examination. It is so simple you can use it for last minute revision. The skills and requirements for the GCSE English language exam are very specific: retrieving information from texts, inference, analysis of language, presentational techniques and comparing texts are some of the skills needed. For writing, students are required to engage the reader and produce a response, which relates to the purpose and audience. This book teaches students how to write using different purposes to inform, explain, argue, advise, describe, persuade, review and how to make the tone and register of their writing suitable for the audience. It emphasises the P.E.E or P.E.T.E.R technique, so students have a blue print (format) to work from; make POINT, give EVIDENCE, comment on TECHNIQUE, EFFECT and RESPONSE. This helps students to develop analytical skills for non-fiction tasks and responses in English literature papers. The students are also taught to use rhetorical techniques groups of three, speaking directly to the reader, rhetorical questions, inclusive pronouns as well as stylistic devices like similes, metaphors and high level vocabulary. The aim of this book is: To help every child gain a grade C in GCSE English. To outline the requirements of the present GCSE course and to teach students to structure and organise a piece of writing. To teach students to look for key words in a task and to plan a suitable response. To teach students to use linguistic and stylistic devices. To show them how to use rhetorical techniques. To teach P.E.E techniques and to teach the analytical skills required for English language and literature tasks. To teach good spelling, punctuation and grammar.

A Level English Language - Frameworks SOW

A Level English Language - Frameworks SOW

This scheme contains a half term’s worth of lessons for lexis, semantics, graphology and phonetics and phonology. Every lesson contains material to present along with example answers and mark schemes for both staff and students to use. The whole scheme is geared towards achieving a level 5 for AQA English Language Paper 1 - question 1 as it provides the foundations for language analysis. There is a mixture of group and individual work and the majority of the PowerPoints are self-contained - this means you can print directly from them as opposed to having separate handouts. Each PowerPoint is accompanied by a detailed lesson plan which takes you through how the lesson might unfold - there is of course scope for teachers to take on the lesson however they wish.

Some of the resources provide useful revision work - particularly for perennial problems with words such as ‘their’ and ‘there’ and ‘was’ and ‘were’. Of Mice and Men - Chapter One

Of Mice and Men - Chapter One

We look at Of Mice and Men and Chapter One, with a focus on the relationship between Lennie and George and how John Steinbeck uses his language to get across their relationship and their personalities to the reader at the beginning of the novella. Additionally, we look at how Steinbeck uses foreshadowing to hint at the rest of the plot. A really useful lesson for students preparing for Literature exams but easily adaptable for younger students as well. Fully differentiated and resourced.

KS3 English Language: Dracula

KS3 English Language: Dracula

KS3 Dracula Unit of work 20 lessons. KS3 English Literature Reading and Writing exercises for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’. Entire unit of work including 20 lessons based on the classical graphic novel published by Classical Comics. The resources can be used as an accompaniment to the original text too. The resources included allow for students to debate motives and themes in the novel and to respond to key sections of the novel commenting upon Stoker’s use of language, use of technique and the intended effect upon the audience. Plot and narrative devices are considered closely too. Writing aspects of the unit encourage students to use the conventions of gothic literature and the introduction to the unit helps students to recognise and replicate the elements of what defines and is typical of the gothic genre. The unit ends with the chilling inevitability of an assessed section from the text with support with modelling responses atypical with KS4 English responses to texts.
