Moana is a complete bundle which will allow all you busy teachers out there to sit back and watch the play unfold with little effort on your part! The bundle includes a full script with in-script song lyrics, supporting backdrop slides, a cast list (with details about speaking roles, dance roles or acting-only roles), full props list, costume suggestions with photos (to send out to parents), staging notes (explaining how to create the effects for this production), as well as set suggestions (providing ideas for how to create island and simple mobile boats for the stage). There is even an audition sign-up sheet to display for pupils.
The movie has been adapted for the stage at primary/KS3 level. There are supplementary lines and roles so that the cast can be composed of three classes. However, with a little tweaking and sharing of the lines, the script is also perfect for schools with just one class performing. In-script stage directions are properly formatted and there is teacher-friendly guidance on staging, backdrop slides and background music, which has also been built into the script, making your job even easier. Additionally, optional opportunities for dance choreography have been provided for within the script. Songs can be performed using a Karaoke DVD - easily obtained for a small fee online.
Please note that the script *preview *seems to take a section from the end and put it between the opening act and a scene from the middle of the play; I am trying to correct the problem with the online support team but please be reassured there are no issues on the actual script.
The story of Moana will be the best Year 6 Leavers Production that you can perform this summer! Not only are the lines hilarious, the costumes colourful and the music wonderfully catchy (set to Pacific Islander music) but it is a heart-warming and significant tale about our environment and human courage.
To summarise the story if you have not seen the film, Moana goes on a journey to recover the heart of Te Fiti, the creator. Without the restoration of her heart, the earth is doomed. The story of Moana can be likened to the current situation that we find ourselves in with global warming – something which young people today are very concerned about. If you want to send a powerful message to your school community this year, then Moana will be perfect!
