Ancient Egypt - digital breakout

Ancient Egypt - digital breakout

Breakouts can be fun, but also tricky if you don't have the equipment or the time to set one up. Avoid the hassle by playing digitally! All you need is enough devices for students to work in small groups and Internet connectivity. At least one student in each group will need either a Google or Gmail account. This breakout explores the topic of ancient Egypt. It includes: the pyramids Hatshepsut the Nile river flooding mummification hieroglyphics Includes detailed instructions and answer key. Great for use as an introduction to a space unit or as a review.

ICT task - Ancient Egyptian Museum visit story - to improve writing by adding suspense

ICT task - Ancient Egyptian Museum visit story - to improve writing by adding suspense

This is a suspense story about being locked in the Egyptian Gallery of a museum over night. This is a word document, so can be used as an ICT text for pupils. The pupils are instructed to improve and finish the story, using techniques (such as, adding description of the character's feelings, describing sounds and setting). There is a self assessment worksheet ( that proves far more effective than success criteria) and also detailed teaching notes.

Book of the Dead primary source analysis

Book of the Dead primary source analysis

A great three-question primary source analysis over the Book of the Dead. Designed for high-school social studies, this source allows students to practice upper-level reading comprehension over a written text as well as an image. It takes most students about 15 minutes to complete and works well in any unit covering ancient Egypt.

A Journey Through Egypt

A Journey Through Egypt

This Learning Pack, produced by the Dorset History Centre, is based around the travels of William John Bankes of Kingston Lacy, Dorset. During the early 19th Century, William John explored large parts of Europe, the Middle East and Egypt, taking intricate notes and drawings of many Ancient Egyptian monuments as they were being rediscovered. These documents, held at the Dorset Archives, give a unique insight into the period and his travels, with their use in this pack putting you in the shoes of William John and his associates. Also included is an information pack, with background information on the various sites visited. For more information on William John Bankes or other members of the Bankes family, take a look at the Bankes website https://dcc.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/bankes-archive or take a look at our other resource packs. The Dorset History Centre would be happy to answer any queries about the pack or any topics it contains. We would love to hear your feedback, so please do contact us at www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/dorsethistorycentre.
