A six session topic on the Ancient Egyptians aimed at UKS2 but easily adaptable. The planning aims to build upon previous learning in history and finishes with a comparison between the Ancient Greeks and the Ancient Egyptians. The topic encourages pupils to study historical sources and does require access to information books or the internet for further research. The planning also makes use of BBC Learning Zone film clips. Resources for each session are included along with an Smartboard Notebook. All images used are Creative Commons or labelled for reuse.
These 3-Part Nomenclature Cards consist of 6 pictures, labels and text cards as well as one control booklet clearly showing the internal parts of a pyramid:
air shafts, subterranean chamber, king's chamber, queen's chamber, grand gallery, pyramid
Print on cardstock, cut on black lines, fold on grey ones and laminate. If you want to include the cursive label (D'Nealian), just fold in the middle so it's back to back.
These cards can be used as flashcards or matching cards for more individually paced learning. For younger children, print two sets of the pictures and leave the labels attached on one - the children can then use those as control cards to match the loose labels. For early readers, match labels to pictures and use control booklet to check and discuss work. For older children, match labels and text to pictures.
Use the blackline master printable to make own booklets.
The Egyptian Cinderella Pack contains a complete unit of work for Years 3/4, with full lesson plans and pupil resources based on the book 'The Egyptian Cinderella' by Shirley Climo. This literacy planning is perfect to go alongside topics about the Egyptians.
The ten lessons in this English unit give children the opportunity to read and listen to the story of The Egyptian Cinderella a number of times in order to become familiar with the language and structure of the story.
In the first week, children will engage with the text through fun drama, discussion and debate activities in order to increase their understanding of the story and they will have the opportunity to articulate ideas about the text using an increasingly varied vocabulary. There is also a grammar focus on using comparative conjunctions, feelings words and action verbs as well as a chance to develop thesaurus skills. In the second week, pupils will plan their own story based on the structure of The Egyptian Cinderella and they will then have the opportunity to draft, edit and present their final narrative.
The English objectives covered in this unit are:
-To compare different versions of a traditional story
-To predict what might happen in a story
-To use comparative conjunctions
-To use a thesaurus to improve writing
-To infer how a character feels
-To use feelings words
-To identify how verbs can create an action section
-To take part in a class debate
-To make a story plan
-To write my own narrative
-To edit my writing
-To make decisions about how to present my writing

I have created a bundle of revision lessons from Prehistoric to Modern Medicine. They are each designed to be delivered in roughly an hour’s lesson.
Although the content of each time period is included, as these are revision lessons the focus is on GCSE style questions such as factors, individuals and Source analysis. These lessons are suited for students of all abilities; some model and markscheme answers are used to analyse topics.
I have also included a set of Medicine Revision Flashcards which look at individuals and evaluate their importance and contribution to Medicine
The lessons are as follows:
L1: Prehistoric and Egyptian Medicine
L2: Greek and Roman Medicine
L3: Islamic Medicine
L4: Medieval Medicine
L5: Renaissance Medicine
L6: King’s Evil and Smallpox
L7: Hospitals from Hell
L8: Pasteur and Koch
L9: Key individuals
L10: Public Health
L11: Women in Medicine
L12: The Liberal Reforms
L13: War and Medicine
L14: The National Health Service
This bundle includes 20 different Reading Comprehension Worksheets suitable for upper-intermediate to advanced ESL learners.
After carefully reading each story/texts, students are required to complete some comprehension exercises including: questions, True or False, gap filling exercises, definition matching exercises, crosswords, word searches and engage in in-depth class discussions on topics around the texts
A nice easy into lesson to Egypt
Pupils must use their common sense to put the timeline of Egypt in the right order and then assess why so many people wanted to move to Egypt around the Nile
B2 is the lower ability lesson with less events to sort out.
I have designed an easily printable project booklet on Ancient Egypt. Print this out and staple together for an easy end of term/end of topic project that your students can have lots of fun doing! No teaching required (all the information is self-contained within the booklet so students can find the answers themselves)! Therefore, this would be an ideal lesson if you needed to leave cover work or indeed if you are simply out of teaching energy (end of term can be tough!).
Target Students: Key Stage 2 or 3 (I used it for my Y7s)
It contains: missing word activities, SPAG exercises, fun facts, comprehension questions and 'draw your own' pages.
My students loved it as they took it home to show parents what they had been learning about!
Supports children exploring an Ancient Egypt topic.
Notebook looks at understanding the numbers get bigger the further away from 0 (Jesus' Birth) because they were longer ago. Worksheet is differentiated 3 ways with an extension activity.
This revision lesson is designed to cover both Prehistoric and Egyptian Medicine. The idea is for students to get a firm grasp of the issues and GCSE questions which will be asked in the summer exam. For example in Egyptian Medicine, how did Egyptians try to prevent the spread of disease and infection. The lesson therefore analyses the various practices and treatments of the Egyptians with a focus on the Ebers Papyrus and prioritising their most important achievements.
