## Pictorial algebra starter - KS2, KS3, GCSE

Solving Equations Starter. This is a pictorial representation of two equations that have to be solved. One of my groups Yr8, just stared at it and once they saw the solution, they sighed by the simplicity of it. Then, my Yr 7 had a good go and eventually solve them. It’s interesting and can be the introduction to solving simultaneous equations. It can trigger so much discussion. It doesn’t really matter if the group can’t solve it. But, I’m sure that any group can be led into it and become familiar with that type of problems. Dead simple and a great starter!

#### Algebra KS2/KS3 Overview

Part 1 of an overview of algebra for upper KS2 / lower KS3 which can be used as a refresher. It has also been used for CPD with TAs who work with upper primary pupils: they wanted to revisit algebra before having to assist pupils in the classroom.

#### Worksheet

This is an introduction of locus of a point. Students will relate this subject to a practical problem of who got in a school with a catchment area of 3km from its front door. Some of students started measuring each name from the school door, until a couple of genius came up with the idea of drawing a circle with the right diameter and the school's front door as a centre.
Then the sprinklers problem given in my other worksheet about loci between 2 points.

#### Cash for questions revision activity

There are 4 sets of questions (Number, Algebra, Shape, Data) which are mainly A and A* (with some lower grade questions from topics which students struggle with, e.g. percentages, constructions). PLEASE REVIEW / COMMENT. Students work in pairs or small groups to answer the questions. When they finish a question they get it marked and if it is correct they are given cash to the value of the question. There are bank notes which you can put your school name and pictures of your teachers on. The team with the most money at the end could be given a prize.

Attached are the game board, cut-out footballs, game card template and instructions. Students answer questions from the game cards (that you can tailor for any topic) and move the ball through the grid on the board, aiming to eventually score goals. Wrong answers lead to 'tackles' where the opponent gets to move instead. This has proved to be good fun for various Maths topics so far.
PLEASE NOTE: My focus and passion as a teacher is in creating fun an enriching games to use in Maths and other subjects. Do have a look at my other resources - there may be variations on this one and other exciting ideas...

#### Marking Feedback Assessment Sticker Labels Time Saving Progress Response

I made these to help me save time when marking the books- If I wrote it several times one day I went home and made a sticker for it.. You need to buy the appropriate sized stickers. I got mine from eBay. The one I use the most is "Extra Challenge" which saves you having to write "Here is an extra challenge for you to do". Hope they help you too!
