The History of Music: Part 1
In this topic the students will be exploring the history of music and musical instruments. This will include Ancient music and instruments (Africa, Asia, Egypt), Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Classical/Romantic music. They will learn about the evolution of instruments, compositions, musical styles and famous/iconic composers. The students will develop a broad understanding on the evolution of music and music instruments over a large time period.

The class will be given plenty of opportunities to develop their performance and composing skills with a range of activities: Composing a Medieval piece of music using the Dorian Scale, putting on a class performance of Pachelbel's Canon and composing a fanfare for the royal music.

The PowerPoint has plenty of links to music and videos for all the styles and genres of music.

This topic can be followed on by The History of Music: Part 2 which looks at music from the 1920's to the present day.
