Now and then: School

Now and then: School

There are two sets of photographs of a school. The black and white photographs are from Victorian times (around 1900) and show the outside, classroom and a school photograph. These photographs are part of the archive of the Essex Record Office. The colour photographs were taken at the same school today (2017), following in the Victorian photographers footsteps as closely as possible. There is very little interpretation, but there are a few observations and ideas in the notes section. I hope that you will make these resources your own. I'd love to know how you used them. Contact me on heritage.education@essex.gov.uk I wasn't able to add a cover image (not sure what I'm doing wrong) - so I've added my youtube video showing who I am and what I do (when I'm not sharing resources for schools). Thanks, Valina Bowman-Burns Learning from History Essex Record Office

History presentation- Christopher Columbus

History presentation- Christopher Columbus

This is a presentation on the explorer, Christopher Columbus, who discovered the 'New World.' Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly. The presentation covers Christopher's childhood, his early sailing years, his voyage and his discovery. The last part of the presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion or for further exploration. Columbus is one of the key historical figures mentioned in the KS1 curriculum, so this presentation would be perfect for introducing the explorer.
