Mountains - Geographical Land forms: Blue Mountains, Sydney

Mountains - Geographical Land forms: Blue Mountains, Sydney

Mountains - Geographical Landforms: Blue Mountains - This resource has a notebook and a worksheet. This notebook looks at mountains and their features. It focuses on Blue Mountains in Sydney, but you can easily change that feature to your local mountains. It assists students in using maps. It has a fun activity of dressing Ed Sheeran for walking in the mountains. I also used that page and placed my students’ heads on the body, so that it was personalised so they could be dressed on the interactive whiteboard and on paper to walk in the mountains. There are also some integrated literacy skills to match aspects of the mountain as well as a writing sheet. It was created for students with special needs (SEN) for teaching life skills but can be used as a valuable resource for early years literacy. There is an accompanying visual symbol board to print.

Examine autumn leaves together first, feeling, smelling, twirling and flying them, and enact their movements too, building descriptive ideas, and simile possibilities for ‘as colourful as…’, then let them write freely on these sheets. They can use the straight lines supplied, and/or other places and angles. Colouring should be AROUND their precious words, of course!

Drama Achievement Reports

Drama Achievement Reports

Simple reports which allow teachers to record progress in drama for students aged 3 - 13 years. Each report covers a range of personal, social and performance skills for children to achieve and these are broken down into four key skills areas in which children learn to co-operate, create, perform and reflect. Markers allow teachers to chart an individual student’s progress through a full term or semester and each report provides space for comments and aims for that child. Not accredited in any way but based on 30 years of drama teaching experience. A great way to begin to quantify the developmental, social and creative benefits of drama. If you have found this resource useful please leave a positive review. Thanks!

Sight Word Paint Splat Game with First 100 High Frequency Fry Words (PK-1)

Sight Word Paint Splat Game with First 100 High Frequency Fry Words (PK-1)

A new twist on sight word swat. Students can practice sight words by playing Paint Splat using the first 100 high frequency Fry words and different colored paintbrushes as pointers. The “artist” chooses a palette card and calls out the sight word. The first player to “splat” the correct word gets to keep the card. The player with the most cards wins the game. I have included directions for four ways to play (Splat game, matching, ABC order and writing), but the cards can be used in unlimited ways throughout the school year. Color and blackline cards are both in the pdf file. There are two recording sheets for accountability.

Phonics clothes peg cards, KS1 / Autism / ADHD / SEN

Phonics clothes peg cards, KS1 / Autism / ADHD / SEN

Children read the word and attach clothes peg onto the appropriate picture. To reduce the possibility of guess work, many of the pictures are of items which are similar to the word if read incorrectly, for example ‘scare’ shows pictures for ‘scar’, ‘scare’ and ‘share’. Three sets of cards are in pack, 15 cards in each set, so 45 cards in total. Cards need trimmed and ideally laminated. I designed these for my learners with autism / ADHD as a more interactive way to practice reading, but they are also suitable for KS1 / SEN.

ASD / Autism / SEN - Associations, workstation task

4 baseboards and 16 cards (best laminated to make the resource last longer). Baseboards each showing 4 items. Pupils use the accompanying cards to identify which items go together (e.g. head goes with cap). Boards and cards are colour coded to ensure that the sets don’t get mixed up. I used these as workstation tasks / morning jobs but they could also be printed and used as worksheets. Designed for children with autism / social communication difficulties to develop reasoning / logical thinking and for the child to begin to make connections. Can be extended by asking the child / young person to explain their reasoning.
