Changing Perspectives in Fairy Tales and a full, concise preparation and assessment booklet.

Changing Perspectives in Fairy Tales and a full, concise preparation and assessment booklet.

Fairy Tales are canonical texts, passed through the ages. These resources ask pupils to explore the different characters perspectives in fairy tales and then helps guide them into preparation for their own performance of a classic Fairy Tale. For higher ability or older students you could ask them to modernise the fairy tales or even ‘explode the canon’ and turn the fairy tale on it’s head! Thanks so much for viewing, please review and feel free to browse to other resources too (many of them are free as I know how hard us teachers work!) Many thanks, Short

Be The Funniest Person In The Room

Be The Funniest Person In The Room

Being really funny means you need to have a humor attitude. These worksheets shows Middle School students how to develop a humor attitude. The worksheets highlight the difference between being the ‘class clown’ or local ‘nitwit’, and focusses on looking at life with a sense of humor - using the lens of laughs. My classes really enjoy the focus I have on humor - I’m sure yours will too. Great activities and strategies for anyone wanting to let more humor in to their life. 17 pages in total including an answer key where necessary. Fame and Candle In The Wind

Fame and Candle In The Wind

The ballad Candle In The Wind by Elton John and Bernie Taupin is about the effects of fame and Marilyn Monroe. But the writers said that it could be about anyone who has had their life cut short through fame. The same song was then re-written and played during the funeral of Princess Diana. This lesson uses drama to explore these same themes of how society glorifies fame and immortalises the famous. This is a perfect resource for Key Stage 3, to help students at this level understand and appreciate the themes of this complex ballad in a creative and accessible way.

English GCSE Narrative Techniques in Disney Films (useful for Drama too)

English GCSE Narrative Techniques in Disney Films (useful for Drama too)

We all know that teaching sophisticated terminology can be really dull, so I decided to teach my class 18 top terms using Disney (and other family films). This will take 2 lessons, unless you skip some parts of the clips, or don’t complete them all. Included is the powerpoint that contains a starter and all the answers for the students (and yourself beforehand), whilst the worksheet contains the definitions for later revision and the space to conduct the quiz format lesson. I teach these terms by first having students read the terms and definitions aloud in class and clear up any misunderstandings. I then open the YouTube playlist and put it on shuffle. The students should write on their worksheets in pencil and should write the name of the film next to the technique that they think is present in the clip. You can choose to reveal the answers as you go through or all at the end… Normally, I do it all at the end because students change their answers after seeing a clip like Finding Nemo and realising that Dory and Marlin are foils of each other. Unfortunately, you will need internet for this lesson as YouTube is a central part, and as the playlist I have made is on YouTube, I cannot promise that videos won’t randomly stop working. I would double check these before doing the lesson, but you have all the answers and can search the same video on YouTube otherwise. Lastly, use the two Lion King videos together, one shows Scar killing Mufasa, and the other shows him blaming Simba (DRAMATIC IRONY OR WHAT?!)

Exploring WW2 Through Drama

Exploring WW2 Through Drama

A short scheme, suitable for KS2 and KS3, that uses drama to explore elements of WW2. It covers issues facing children at home and as evacuees during the Second World War and provides lots of opportunities for discussion, interaction, and the sharing of information. The scheme is presented as one long unit but can easily be divided into separate lessons or bitesize pieces for the classroom. Drama methods include freezes, role play, improvisation, hotseating, mime and writing in role. The unit is brilliant as a springboard for further WW2 work, or to further reinforce WW2 topic work. If you liked this resource and found it useful, please spare a moment of your valuable time to leave a positive review. Thanks everso!

I’ve included the script, presentation (which includes all music) and some costume letters to be sent home. I added photos of the children to the slide show which made it even better. The slide show has all been set up and timings suited us. We had such great feedback from this production! I hope you enjoy it! Role in The Middle

Role in The Middle

A thorough look at the aims and objectives of the Drama exercise, “Role-in-the-Middle”, with guidelines, examples and rationale for experienced and inexperienced drama teachers alike. The aims are to collaborate and create a new character, or flesh out an existing character. To discover or invent the rules which lead to high quality work. A character building game, where one student, or empty chair, takes the centre, representing a blank character. Around them, other students take turns to make contributions, developing the character and filling in the blanks.

Improvisation task based on Beatles' song lyrics

Improvisation task based on Beatles' song lyrics

Suitable for KS2 and KS3 this drama resource is good for small groups getting to grips with the lyrics of classic Beatles’ song lyrics. Many of them tell stories which can be acted out and elaborated upon. Eg Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Obla di obla da, Penny Lane, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, A Day in the Life, Eleanor Rigby, Being for the benefit of Mr Kite, Yellow Submarine, Octopus’ Garden, etc. I used this idea with a group of adults with learning disabilities and there was so much scope for characterisation and improvisation. This could be done over several sessions. Ours culminated in a Beatles’ Day with performances before an invited audience. The resource itself is a worksheet that can be given to each group to fill in once they have chosen which song lyric is going to be their starting point for an improvisation.

Film Making Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Drama Theatre

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘Film Making’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!
