Spanish lesson and resources - KS2 - Family Members

This is a plan and resources for a beginner's Spanish lesson to use with KS2 or KS3. It involves children learning the vocabulary for grandad/grandmother/mum/dad/brother and sister in Spanish. The plan could be used for an individual lesson, or as part of an 'All About Me' unit. The plan gives details of a whole class game to use as a starter, how to teach the vocabulary, a paired speaking and listening activity, a whole class listening activity, a writing activity and plenary. It is highly interactive and allows children to practise a range of language skills. All resources needed for the lesson are included in the price. Give your learners a great start, with practice greeting their friends, and asking how are you? Show learners how easy Spanish is with cognates from the world of work, from taxistas to futbolistas. Present a little grammar, with personal pronouns from yo to ellos, and a few verbs including ser, hablar and tener. Study un poco de geografía en español, and talk about la familia.

Spanish family words

First learn some vocabulary ... father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband and wife. Test your students then practice using the words el and la for the. Read a text in Spanglish about showing possession in Spanish with "the wife of my brother" structure. Practice using this structure; draw a family tree and describe it. The verb tener is presented and used to ask and answer about classroom equipment, and about brothers and sisters.

In this worksheet you will find all the parts of the verb 'nacer' to say where you or others were born, using a variety of capital cities and countries. There are 2 exercises (Spanish to English and English to Spanish) and all vocabulary (other than family members) is provided. Suitable for all levels of ability. Answers provided.
