Y10 GCSE Dance: A years’ worth of teaching resources!!

This Bundle is for teachers of GCSE dance teaching GCSE Dance to Y10 pupils. It includes everything you need to prepare your Year 10s for Year 11. Each 6 week SOW focuses on one of the professional works from the GCSE Dance anthology; exploring the professional work through choreography, performance and appreciation tasks (following the advice from AQA). This bundle is tried and tested as it is the second year that I have used the included resources. I am proud to say that my pupils have enjoyed the variety of tasks included and have felt confident completing year 10 in preparation for Year 11. The SOW should be followed in the following order: 1st Half term – Emancipation of Expressionism 2nd Half term – Artificial Things 3rd Half Term – Shadows 4th Half Term – A Linha Curva 5th Half term – Infra 6th Half Term – Within Her Eyes Please see individual resources for more information. It is designed to be taught in the 6th half term of Year 10 (after teaching Emancipation of Expressionism, Artificial Things, Shadows A Linha Curva and Infra) following the advice from AQA. It is to be used with AQA’s resources such as the Within Her Eyes fact file and video links. Within the 6 week delivery PowerPoint there are theory and practical lessons to explore the professional work of Within Her Eyes. Each lesson comes with lesson starters in the form of ‘bell activities’/’Talking Points’ and lesson objectives. Homework tasks and all resources needed for this PowerPoint are included. Although the main theme of this delivery PowerPoint is Within Her Eyes, this SOW also includes teaching the Shift set phrase. Please note that the anthology megamix that is mentioned in the SOW refers to an audio file (included) that is a mix of the music used in all 6 anthology pieces. In my previous SOW (Infra) pupils created a megamix dance that included key motifs from the anthology to help pupils remember them. In this SOW pupils create the last section (Within Her Eyes) – If you have not purchased my KS4 Infra SOW, you can simply use the Within Her Eyes section of the megamix to choreograph a short within Her Eyes piece in isolation from the megamix dance itself. Best printed and laminated for use during performances and evaluation lessons. On one side is a basic word bank for students to choose from (to avoid them repeating the same thing that each group did well or need to improve), and on the other are sentence starters and connectives to develop vocabulary and use of full sentences when evaluating performances in class. Once the students get used to using them I found that performance feedback was much quicker and more valuable. I also have a drama one in my shop.

Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Time: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Instructions Print off sheets 1 - 4 on card (if possible) Print off sheets 5 - 10 on paper Laminate sheets 5 - 10 Cut out the individual words which will now be laminated Cut out the envelopes (which may be faint) - Double click the envelope outline in word and change the opacity to make darker and more visible Fold the corners of the envelope in and glue the joins of the bottom three, leaving the top one free to open/ close Put the words in the correct envelopes Use and have fun!

Within the new GCSE Dance specification, the students require a wide range of knowledge which in turn demands the initial understanding of specific terminology with many different catergories address in the specification content, for example physical skills, choreographic devices, aural setting, performance environment, safe practice etc. This powerpoint lists all the categories and topic that are covered in the 40% written component and can be used as a game/quiz as each heading appears first giving time for students to either, call out for points, discuss with partner, or just work independently to formulate a list in response. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. There are many ways to use this resource: Make it into a game: print out the 1st slide and cut the boxes out. Pupils can pick the boxes at random and have a go at answering the questions on the second slide. Differentiation: You can pre pick the questions prior to the lesson based on your pupil’s strengths and areas of weakness to challenge your pupils appropriately. Print out the 2nd slide for them with their differentiated question on. Whole class activity: As a class decide on a question to tackle and discuss the question together before allowing the pupils to have a go at writing their answers. During lessons 1-6, pupils will explore a variety of different stimuli used in choreography e.g. 2D art and text. The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

This is a 10 minute medley that I have edited and produced. It would be great for a school performance or an assembly activity. The songs included (in order) are: The greatest show, Million Dreams, This is Me and Come Alive. There are 3 files to this resource: The Song Sheet the lyrics are in two colours, Black for solo singing parts that can be split to suit your group and Blue for the ensemble parts. The Medley MP3 This is a medley arranged by myself, it is a backing track but the original singers remain for the ensemble parts just to give the kids a bit of help. The Medley with singing MP3 I have recorded the song with vocals to show where the solo parts come in. I performed this medley with KS1 and Lower KS2 children. I split the solo parts into 3-4 lines each child, either alone or in little groups. They had no trouble learning their parts and the added ensemble vocals gave the volume needed for the big chorus parts. Please leave a review and happy singing!

KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreographic Devices and Intent within the Anthology

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreographic devices and choreographic intent within the anthology, in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint sit pupils in their groups and give them the QR code for their anthology set work for them to watch (on their phones or on iPads) and write notes about the choreographic devices that they see. Discuss with each group how the choreographic devices relates to the choreographic intent of the piece. After the discussion, give each group their exam question handout and allow pupils to answer the 2 questions (using their notes to help them).

KS4 GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Choreography

This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising choreography in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). After the starter activity on the PowerPoint give each group one of the texts as a stimulus. As a group, pupils can discuss how the text can be used to create choreography in relation to each of the questions on the PowerPoint (I allowed around 3 min per slide). Encourage pupils to write notes on the sheet with the text on as these can be used as posters in the classroom and/or be photocopied and given to all students for further revision. After pupils have completed notes for each of the questions, give pupils a copy of the questions as a mock test and allow pupils 20 min to complete the test using their text as their stimulus. Within this resource I have included the notes that my pupils made as an example.
