This pack of 200 conversation prompt cards and supporting activities was my go-to resource when teaching English as a Foreign Language. They’re awesome for milling activities, providing scaffolding, and building speaking confidence. Not only do they make a great warmer for English, EAL, and ESL classes, but they can also be used to improve follow-up question skills and develop relationships between students and teachers. The cards feature starter questions, statements, and actions, and are split into eight, color-coded categories. Each category has ‘easier’ prompts (silver star cards) and ‘more difficult’ prompts (gold star cards). Detailed step-by-step instructions for 5 main activities and 1 extension activity are also provided. *** These are all different cards than in the 64-card Conversation Card Starter Pack. *** The cards are provided in .pdf format inside a zip file. This resource is designed to practice telling the time in Spanish and talking about every day of the week´s routine activities. This resource includes: 1 board game to practice the time (sharp, quarter past, half past, quarter to) 1 board game to practice the time (every five minutes) 1 board game to practice asking and answering about daily routines (What time do you wake up?) 1 board game to practice asking and answering about daily routines with the days of the week, parts of the day and time (*What do you do on a Thursdays at three o´clock in the afternoon? * INSTRUCTIONS: Print each page one-sided on A3 paper/cardboard and laminate. To play the game you will need two dice and many counters. Set up centers with all four games and have students find a pair and play the games one by one. Set a limited number of times each student should throw the dice (for example 5), depending on how much time you have. Students earn one counter for each correct answer. When the students have played all the games, they count their counters to see who has the most . Students take turns to throw both dice. They read and answer the question that corresponds to the numbers on the dice (e.g.: where 1 and 6 meet on the grid).

EAL New Arrivals: Scheme of Work and Resource Pack

This book will serve as a short course for new EAL (English as an Additional Language) students who may have recently arrived in Primary or Secondary school and who may have limited or no English. Currently in Education, many schools have significant numbers of students arriving each year with limited English skills and therefore little no access to the school curriculum. Formal EAL departments and training in schools has slowly diminished in recent years and often there is no clear course or structure in how to ingratiate these students into the school and offer appropriate support. Teachers are often at a loss when it comes to providing work for these students and the students themselves can be very limited in their ability to progress. Very often there is a lack of specialist EAL teachers or support workers in schools and so this book would offer an easy to teach method for different members of staff in a school. This book could be used over a 6-7 week course, therefore could be ideal introduction for the EAL student’s first half term in a school. It will include weekly themes that mix the acquiring of English language grammar and vocabulary, improving reading, writing and oral skills and learning common and useful element of English to improve their daily life in school and in the community.

Multiple activities relating to the launch of the latest British currency release - the 10p piece

Suitable for use with adult ESOL or Entry Level English students as well as KS2 schools. The resources provide up-to-date information regarding the Royal Mint’s ‘Great British Coin Hunt’ launch and activities based around the 26 new ten pence pieces, embedding British Values. There are opportunities for reading aloud in turn, dictionary practice, and vocabulary building. Also enclosed is a card-matching activity where pictures of the new coins are matched with the appropriate rhymes. Simply print out sets of the coins and rhymes sheets, laminating if desired, cut them into individual boxes, and give a set of both pictures and texts to the students to pair up, either individually or in pairs. The various activities cover aspects of the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum including Rt/E2-3, Wt/E2-E3.2, Rs/E2-E3, Ws/E2, Rw/E2.4,5-Rw/E3 and Ww/E2-3. This is a diary template to encourage EAL / ESL students to continue their writing development over holiday periods, when a long recess can result in a plateauing of progress. Although 60 pages long, the resource can be printed in booklet form, which requires only 15 sheets of A4 paper. It suggests topics for extended writing based on personal experiences likely to be had over a break from school. It also includes a section where students can write brief notes about what they do each day, to be used as reminders for when they write their longer pieces later on. It could be suggested to students that they make sketches or add photos from their phones/cameras to illustrate their experiences. Another use for the booklet could be to invent some entertaining entries on those topics not personally experienced, possibly using imagined characters and/or a downloaded photo as a stimulus. At the back of the diary, each topic for extended pieces of writing has suggestions for content and most have scaffolds/writing frames with sentence starters and simple structures that students are most likely to need. Not all topics have to be attempted; a wide range has been included to make it more likely that students will be able to do a reasonable number of more extended pieces in addition to their daily notes. They are divided into 3 sections: - 5 topics to write about before the holiday starts - 25 topics to write about during the holidays - 5 topics that encourage reflection (at the end of the holidays) There is also space for writers to create their own topics. The diary may also be useful for other writers who need help with structure and ideas before they can begin to craft texts- reluctant writers and students with SEN, for example.
