EAL for Secondary Students: Workbook 2

EAL for Secondary Students: Workbook 2

EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 2) directly addresses the unique academic needs facing students who arrive in the UK with little or no English. Beginning with first principles and slowly advancing to high order thinking skills, EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 2) ensures that the student will develop an effective understanding of English. The tremendous advantage of this resource is that the student will immediately become fully included in the learning process. At the end of each unit, the student can record the progress they have made by completing the user friendly self-assessment sheet. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 2) is a student-centred resource which enables the student to be actively engaged in developing skills that are required in an academic environment. The teacher can witness and monitor the steady progress the EAL student is making towards becoming an independent learner. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 2) allows the teacher the flexibility to select appropriate topics. EAL for Secondary Students (Workbook 2) can, also, be used as an excellent Induction programme. When it is necessary and appropriate to withdraw students from mainstream classes, this is a systematic self-contained resource that enhances language development and activates confidence in the student. EAL for Secondary Students Workbook 2 contains over 80 pages of excercises.

Schools Around the World: Georgia: Where we Live

A small collection of photos from my own travels and visits to schools around the world. This is a school in the rural village of Vale in the region of Samtskhe Javakheti, in Georgia. The classroom has no electricity or lighting, and is heated by a log stove that the children look after through the day. In the winter children sit in hats and gloves at their desks. There is no school uniform, and students must buy their own books, paper, and pencils for learning.
