AQA A Level Spanish - Topics and Ideas - Year 2 only

AQA A Level Spanish - Topics and Ideas - Year 2 only

This features ideas and key examples of information that’s relevant and useful for both the speaking and writing exams. It’s perfect for revision or teaching as it presents the ideas and examples from the Hispanic world that go above and beyond what can be found in the textbook in an accessible and easy-to-read way. I have found it very useful, as have my classmates and my teacher!

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

These powerpoints were made by me during my A Level Spanish studies; they summarise key facts, figures and discussion points relating to each of the topics and sub-themes which will help when it comes to studying and revising for the speaking exam, as well as vocabulary for the written exams. They include all of the year one and year two topics, as well as useful vocab that’s either listed or used within each slide. It’s set out in an easy-to-use order to avoid confusion and has extra information (e.g. examples of events in the Spanish-speaking world which are relevant to each sub-theme and can be very impressive in the exam) and is handy for finding what you’re looking for. My teacher will be using these to support her next class, I am sure it will be very helpful!

GCSE Spanish environment dominoes

GCSE Spanish environment dominoes

GCSE Spanish matching activity to revise or introduce the topic of the environment . I have used these dominoes in observed lessons, whole class activities and one to one with students. Students are kept busy reading and translating each domino. The vocabulary ranges from to simple to more complex so would suit mixed ability groups but could easily be differentiated by adding more complex vocabulary or full sentences to replace the simple words or adding complex idioms. Equally you could replace the complex vocabulary with simple sentences for lower ability groups or KS3.

New Spec - Social Issues - Spanish AQA GCSE Vocab Flicker - Great Revision Resource!

New Spec - Social Issues - Spanish AQA GCSE Vocab Flicker - Great Revision Resource!

GCSE Social Issues - A self-flicking Powerpoint Presentation which has taken the vocabulary from the New AQA Spanish Specification. Great Revision tool which has the translation on the notes to support with the wording AQA use in the Specification, but also if a non-Spanish specialist is running key interventions for revision. It starts and stops with ‘S’ and to come out of it you need to press ‘esc.’ Vocabulary is collated into Foundation and Higher so it can be paused easily for different abilities.

GCSE Spanish: Vocabulary revision cards

GCSE Spanish: Vocabulary revision cards

This activity contains over 90 vocabulary revision cards which are all various levels of difficulty. Once cut up, pupils take it in turn to pick up a card at random and either speak or write down what the card says. For example “tres animales” (this would be a ‘green’ / easy card) or “tres problemas que existen en familias hoy en dia” (this would be a ‘red’ / difficult card). Translations are provided in English as well on each card to ensure understanding - pupils can either listen to the instruction in Spanish from their partner or read the instruction. This activity will help pupils revise vocabulary for topics that they might not have studied for a while, and will help them figure out which areas of vocabulary they are weakest at. I did this recently with my Year 11 class and they loved it!

Writing/ Speaking/ Creation structure tasks to improve fluency when developing ideas. These are all original resources that have been developed over the course of the year and transformed into a4 booklets for my current year 11s. Each unit consolidates key vocab, gives students several opportunities to practice the vocabulary and grammar in different contexts - and most importantly the activities vary greatly - meaning they’re not super dry! I’ve also taken extra care to ensure all resources are attractive and easily accessible as I teach a mixed ability year 11 class (targets 3-8)

El medio ambiente - Definiciones - Card Games

El medio ambiente - Definiciones - Card Games

This game is designed to practice vocabulary related to environmental issues. I usually split the students into groups and give each group a set of cards, as competition motivates them. It is a good idea to print each set on different colored paper, to prevent the sets from mixing. If you do not have colored paper at hand, you could also mark the back of the cards with a different colored marker or highlighter BEFORE you laminate them. There are 2 different versions of this game. Game 1 (blue frame) includes 16 cards with the definitions in Spanish of different environmental issues and 16 cards with their corresponding images and names. Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out. This is a classic matching pairs game. It can be played in several ways: The teacher deals the picture-name cards to the students and saves the definition cards in a pile. The teacher reads the definition out loud and elicits the correct term. Next class, after the students have already had some practice with it, they can try reading the definitions themselves or to a partner and pair up the cards. As a memory game - In small groups or pairs, students arrange the cards face down in rows and columns. They take turns in turning over 2 cards until they find a pair. They get to keep the pairs they find and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. Game 2 (green frame) is a Spanish version of the I-Have-Who-Has game. It includes There are 16 cards. Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out the cards. Distribute all the cards randomly to the students. The ideal number of players is 4 (4 cards for each student), but it will also work with 2 to 8 players. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies. Select a student to begin the game by reading the definition on his card out loud and then putting it down. The other students listen attentively to each definition, and say the matching word if they have the answer card and then they read the next definition. The game is over when all the cards are down. It is a great game to practice the newly taught vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills.

El medio ambiente - Vocabulario Básico - Matching cards

El medio ambiente - Vocabulario Básico - Matching cards

This game is a classic game of matching cards. There are 40 word cards with their corresponding 40 picture cards. I use it to introduce the new vocabulary through inquiry, asking the students to match the words to the pictures, with the help of cognates, previous knowledge, group or pair work etc. INSTRUCTIONS Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out. Give all the cards to the students and ask them to pair up pictures and words. More ways of using the cards: As a memory game - In small groups or pairs, students arrange the cards face down in rows and columns. They take turns in turning over 2 cards until they find a pair. They get to keep the pairs they find and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. In pairs, students take any 4 to 6 picture cards and they take turns in showing one card each to their partner and eliciting the word for it. Students who say the correct word, keep the card and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more cards, wins the game. When they finish with their cards, they can swap their cards with another pair’s cards. Similar to Spoon game - Deal all the cards to the students. The objective is to make as many pairs as possible without showing your cards to anyone. At the teacher’s signal, students put down one card to their left and then take the card on their right. When they make a pair, they put it down and continue until they get rid of all their cards.Whoever finishes the cards first, wins. The teacher deals all the word cards to the students and keeps the picture cards in a pile. Teacher shows the picture cards one by one and elicits the word. If the student who has that card knows the word and says it out loud, they take the card to make a pair. If they don’t, the teacher puts the picture card away. Students count their pairs at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. This can be done vice versa, too, with the teacher dealing the picture cards and keeping the word cards.

I have to admit I got this idea from a Twitter post I saw months ago, I went through a good few weeks of using these as starters for year 11 every week. Each one had either a noun or a verb to be practised, if you want me to share the rest then let me know.

AQA A-Level Spanish. Revision for Speaking exam

AQA A-Level Spanish. Revision for Speaking exam

This is a very simple and structured way to support students revising for their AQA A-level speaking exam. This resource was inspired by a GCSE French resource I saw on Twitter. The original layout was 20 minutes a day for 40 days. Mine is, due to my timing, 20 minutes a day of Spanish for 20 days. How yo use: When scanning the QR Code printed on the handout, your students will be able to find all the tasks, day by day. For some of revision tasks, students have to email the teacher some sort of evidence to show that they have done and completed the daily task. Buena suerte!
