Target Language Expressions for Spanish Teachers 2017-18 (Native Speaker Approved)

Target Language Expressions for Spanish Teachers 2017-18 (Native Speaker Approved)

A simple, handy colourful list of Spanish target language phrases for use in the classroom to promote both teacher and pupil target language use. I used it for a full year and it definitely gave me the edge in observations. OFTED are really big are effective, timely and purposeful target language use rather than pupils merely reading phrases off a sheet. If trained well from the beginning using these phrases, pupils could have a level of fluency in the context of classroom instructions from the very beginning of their Spanish course. Not a Spanish expert? Print out a copy and keep it on your desk! **You can also purchase this as part of a bundle for new Spanish teachers**

SPANISH FOR CHILDREN - 80 ANIMALS GAMES CARDS & REFERENCE SHEET

SPANISH FOR CHILDREN - 80 ANIMALS GAMES CARDS & REFERENCE SHEET

PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS AND LEARNING ANIMALS IN SPANISH! SPANISHANIMALS GAMES CARDS are perfect for young learners of SPANISH. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both masculine and feminine, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in SPANISH too. It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with SPANISH, to identify cognates and to begin to link spelling with sound in SPANISH. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic ones. Along the way, children may even get to know some new animals! There are 80 CARDS in total, which include 2 DECKS of 40 CARDS to enable you to vary and differentiate your games: DECK 1: matching SPANISH & ENGLISH cards, with both the picture and the word. The ENGLISH cards have a different frame, with blackline pictures. To keep costs down, simply print all the cards using just black ink. DECK 2: this pack features word-only cards in SPANISH, with a matching set of picture-only cards. This is really useful for a focus on word recognition and recall in FRENCH. I’ve included a word & picture reference sheet for children to read through before they play. The sheet can be shared between small groups of children, or distributed individually for children to file in their workbooks or learning folders for future reference. Play the games regularly for maximum benefit - they’re always really popular with young learners of SPANISH! Playing against a timer adds some extra fun - can children beat their own time record? The animals featured are: - bee - bird - cat - dog - duck - elephant - fish - fox - frog - giraffe - lion - monkey - mouse - parrot - rabbit - snake - spider - tiger - tortoise/turtle - zebra The resource consists of two, non-editable files. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully: this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher/purchaser use only. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y QUE OS DIVIRTÁIS!

Mira 1: Modules 1-6: Vocabulary Matching Exercises

Mira 1: Modules 1-6: Vocabulary Matching Exercises

These simple yet versatile matching exercises are made from the vocabulary used in modules 1-6 of Mira 1. They can be used as starters, extensions, plenaries, homework and revision. They are also great for measuring progress when used as a starter and a plenary in the same lesson. They can also be colour-coded / traffic lighted to provide instant feedback as well as a focus for assessment revision. I always let pupils choose whether they want to write the answers in in English or the Target Language. Matching with lines never works! I have had great feedback from pupils when using them and hope you will too. Please let me know if you find typos / mistakes.

Quiz-Quiz-Trade template

Quiz-Quiz-Trade template

Template for the popular 'Quiz-Quiz-Trade' activity. Students each have a small piece of paper/card with a phrase in TL and its translation underneath. Students mill around the room, when they ‘bump’ into someone student A will say their phrase in TL and student B has to translate (quiz). The same happens with student B’s card (quiz). If both students translate each other’s card correctly they trade, hence the quiz-quiz-trade. To add an element of competition, ask the students to count the amount of times they exchanged and give a prize / raffle ticket / house point to the winner.

Dice-rolling conversation - Pairwork template

Dice-rolling conversation - Pairwork template

Give the students a gap-fill text with 10 gaps in it (A to I). Of course, this can be more or fewer gaps – just remember to adjust the A to I in the table. In each gap in the text, write a letter (A to I). Along the corresponding row in the table, give 6 alternatives to go in that gap. Pupils then choose one by rolling a dice. When the student reaches the gap, they roll a dice and say/write the corresponding word.
