New Spanish A Level: paper 3 (speaking) discussion cards. Aspects of political life.

New Spanish A Level: paper 3 (speaking) discussion cards. Aspects of political life.

A 35 page booklet to help prepare Spanish A Level students for Paper 3 (speaking test). The booklet focuses on the Theme 4 (Aspects of political life), and it contains 18 discussion cards covering “Jóvenes de hoy, ciudadanos de mañana” (6 cards), “Los movimientos populares” (6 cards) and “Monarquías y dictaduras” (6 cards). Each section is followed by a list of 20 questions to encourage the students to further explore the issues covered in the cards. The cards contain (quite a lot) of factual information about the theme (a lot more than the sample cards from AQA) and three questions, the first one always being “How do you react to the information on this card?”). The aim of presenting the cards like this is to provide the students with a lot of ideas on what to say about the theme, as well as making them more aware that they always have to discuss the information printed on the card (AO2 and AO4). The booklet also includes a student-friendly overview of the new specification, an explanation of the requirements of Paper 3, the assessment objectives and the mark scheme for both part one (discussion if a sub-theme) and part two (presentation and discussion of the individual research project) of the paper. Finally, the booklet also contain three pages of useful language for the test.

Spanish World Cup Double Translation Gol Film (Goal Dream Begins)/ Untangle Translation

For Key Stage 3. Translation practice into English and Spanish. The translation is a summary of the Gol (Goal: Dream Begins) film which is very relevant to the World Cup, issues around the Mexican border and child immigrants and the experiences of bilingual children. The film itself is currently available on YouTube and is in Spanish and English. This type of activity is currently very popular with my students. I have provided a glossary as extra support, you could remove these for more able students. Answers provided. A great end of year activity.

SPANISH VOCABULARY CARDS

SPANISH VOCABULARY CARDS

This combined set of games and activities really does help students to develop and embed their beginning SPANISH vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way. My students love to work independently, and find this a really successful way of embedding vocab into their longer-term memory. They enjoy the opportunity to quiz or test themselves and each other on a regular basis - they’re a very popular alternative to more traditional vocabulary ‘drilling tasks’, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. The pack features 198 BEGINNERS WORDS AND PHRASES that have always given my students a flying start: **Los saludos Los días de la semana Los meses y las estaciones del año Los números 0-40 Mi familia Los colores Las partes del cuerpo El tiempo Palabras frecuentes Frases útiles para la clase Preguntas y respuestas ** Each set comprises: SPANISH and ENGLISH game cards, with all the words and phrases to use in a variety of games and activities - I’ve suggested a range of games and activities that have worked well for me. This file also includes the game card template, which encourages your students to apply their developing knowledge of SPANISH practically and creatively. There’s definitely a bit of prep involved, but you’ll be able to use the cards for many years, especially if you laminate them. REFERENCE, RECALL & WRITE WORKBOOK - this is an 18-page booklet. There are 3 differentiated RECALL & WRITE challenges to help your students really practice and review the vocabulary: CHILLOUT CHALLENGE: students write from memory all the words and phrases in ENGLISH from a SPANISH prompt - all the words/phrases are in their language category CHAMPION CHALLENGE: students write from memory all the words and phrases in SPANISH from an ENGLISH prompt - again, all the words and phrases are in their language category SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE: all the words and phrases appear in random order, and switch from SPANISH to ENGLISH at each question - this really does put students’ memories to the test! Encourage students to complete the NOTES & NEXT STEPS sheets regularly - this helps promote reflective learning, encourages students to think about progress they have made, to think about targets for improvement, and how to achieve those targets. There are four non-editable files in a zipped format in this resource pack. Please read the Terms of Use carefully - this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / purchaser / classroom use only. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y QUE OS DIVIRTÁIS!

AQA GCSE Spanish - Reading Section B (Foundation) answer strategy / Aste Nagusia

AQA GCSE Spanish - Reading Section B (Foundation) answer strategy / Aste Nagusia

This is a template of a set of activities that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering a Reading Section B Foundation task (questions and answers in Spanish) with elements of Part A to explain the main concepts. Please note that this is a template and can be reused for different topics. This one is related to the topic of festivals and celebrations. It is based on the texts about Aste Nagusia. The students read the texts aloud (Oracy!) in turns as a class and then play an ‘air writing’ game which basically means they are trying to locate the words that the teacher asks them to find. Next they do a similar task, trying to answer in Spanish in which line is the word the teacher asked them to locate. Next they annotate keywords in groups trying to translate as many unknown words as possible (in a group - coaching each other). They then play a quick tenses game to revise how to identify present, past, immediate future and conditional verbs and how to correctly translate them into English. Consequently they revise the strategies for approaching Reading Part A/B tasks and play a quick translation game. I then thought it would be useful if they quickly revise the Spanish question words by playing an online game (from the Language Gym website - free and useful!) and complete the Reading Part B task (differentiated). Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas!

AQA GCSE Spanish - Reading Section C - SP-ENG translation (Foundation) answer strategy

This is a template of a set of activities that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering a Reading Section C Foundation task (SP-ENG translation). Please note that this is a template and can be reused for different topics. This one is related to the topic of festivals and celebrations. First of all students discuss the task and top tips with each other (All speak / write round robin) and then move on with discussing separate phrases in terms of grammar. Then they use the help / hints to translate the text individually. Then they check the answers, discuss them with each other and self-peer assess their work. Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas!

his is a full 60 minute lesson class about Argentina - targeted towards any level Spanish in middle/high school. This lesson includes a no prep powerpoint, guided notes, and a fun communicative activity where students are the Pope and Messi. Powerpoint/Google Slides + Guided Notes: Gives students basic information about the Argentina (Mothers of May, tango, food, sports) - and then gives students rules about how Argentinas typically speak (voseo, y–> SH, ll–>sh). Students then listen to people with Argentina accents in videos, and focus on the accent and pronunciation. Communicative Activity: Students then take on the role of the Pope and Messi- and read a conversation out loud with their partner. They use their best Argentine accents and fill in the blanks of what their friend said (speaking puzzle/fill in the blank activity). After they answer comprehension questions in English. Creative Activity: As an exit ticket, students create a comic or fun drawings, using the slang they learned in class to represent what they’ve learned in a fun new way! I recommend using the google slides (included in the powerpoint) and the notes are included as well!
