This resource deals with Heath's foreign policy with the main focus on Britain's entry to the EEC. There is a hyperlink to the programme 'The ten year duel' which covers Heath's relationship with Harold Wilson. There is an excellent section on the entry to the EEC but also useful background to the whole section on Heath. Students are asked to consider the impact of the referendum in 1975 and a further hyperlink is included. The lesson concludes with Heath's policy towards the USA and China. There are two lessons which deal with social issues in the 1970s. The first lesson on race and immigration begins with the influx of the Ugandan Asians (hyperlink included) and the subequent Race Relations Act. The lesson then explores the impact of the growth of the National Front (hyperlink included) and the response from the government. There are further hyperlinks included which focus on whether Britain was becomming a more tolerant society such as Blair Peach. A set of notes is also included. The second lesson is on the role of women in the 1970s and impact of the legislation passed. Two hyperlinks are included which show different interpretations of the protest at the Miss World finals. This is a lesson which deals with the economic boom of the post war era. There is a powerpoint which looks at the reasons why there was a post war boom and includes a hyperlink of a Conservative party political party broadcast which suggests that the Conservatives were responsible for the boom. The activities include a comparision of wages against real wages and a source evaluation exercise which requires access to the Sally Waller AQA A level textbook. This lesson explores the divided oppostion during the early years of Thatcher. There is a revision of why Labour remained in opposition for so long as students review the governments of Wilson and Callaghan. The formation of the SDP is analysed and there are two hyperlinked video clips which look at the impact of the party. Students are asked to rank reasons why there was divided opposition and form a judgement. A card sort and handout is also provided. There is also a handout included with information on Thatcher’s key ministers which was the homework task from the previous lesson.

This lesson explores the role of Eisenhower and Kennedy in Vietnam. It looks at the difference in strategies by the two presidents and several activities for students are included - they are asked to sort statements and to reach a verdict as to who was the most successful president in Vietnam. A hyperlinked video clip is also included together with a timeline homework activity. Students are asked to plot the increasing level of US involvement during the presidencies of Eisenhower and Kennedy. The lesson is based on the AQA syllabus but can be adapted for other schemes.

The first lesson explores four key developments, the abolition of capital punishment, the legalistion of abortion, the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the divorce act. The second and third lesson explore the issue of education; the first lesson looking at the development of the comprehensive system and the second lesson, the development of higher education and the open university.
