Resources by emma_lorraine

My background includes teaching secondary Geography (ages 11-18) for over 9 years, coordinating KS3 Geography, KS4 Geography exam marking with some literacy tutoring in between. With this experience I provide a range of resources - some specifically for KS3 / KS4 / KS5 pupils and some which can be used by the different year groups (with or without editing!) Where possible I will provide both a PDF and an editable Word Document so that you can use and alter as required. Enjoy and thank you!

KS3 Geography - Atlas Mapping Tasks - Exploring Places – Includes British Isles / UK & South America Mapping Tasks

Atlas Mapping Tasks – British Isles Mapping Task and South America Mapping Task – Including a base map and task sheet for each place - KS3 Geography – Exploring Places Includes both a PDF version and editable Word Document version. An activity designed to allow pupils the opportunity to build upon their World knowledge as well as consolidate their Atlas skills. These resources direct pupils to use an Atlas (book or online) to map as many of the key locations such as country names, capital cities, mountains and rivers onto the base maps included (one for the British Isles and one for the continent of South America). Pupils are provided with a ‘checklist’ of what to map and are encouraged to design their own key to when presenting this information. I have found these resources useful with KS3 Geography pupils as an introductory task when teaching about places within the UK and South America, to help pupils widen their World knowledge and identification of features of physical geography. I have used these resources both as an independent home learning activity and as a classroom activity. Adaptable versions are included in this download enabling you to alter to suit your school’s geography curriculum or to cater to the needs of your teaching groups.

Pupils are also provided with extension tasks throughout in addition to a guide of how to make their map wonderful. I have found this resource useful with KS3 Geography pupils as an introductory task when teaching about the UK, to help pupils identify the different areas that make up Great Britain, the United Kingdom, and the British Isles. I have used this within the classroom environment to ensure pupils had access an Atlas whilst completing this activity. However, this resource would also be well-suited for an independent home learning. Adaptable versions are included in this download enabling you to alter to suit your school’s geography curriculum or to cater to the needs of your teaching groups.

Waterfalls Educational Leaflet Design Task Checklist / Feedback Form - KS3 / GCSE Geography – Rivers

(0)
An activity designed to allow pupils the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of waterfall formation, as well as work independently to widen their World geographical knowledge by applying their prior learning to a waterfall of their choice. These resources outline the overall task of designing an educational leaflet based on a waterfall of choice. There are clear criteria outlined of what should be included in a ‘checklist’ format which can be used by pupils to self or peer assess work as completed, or assessment for learning (AFL) opportunity where pupils (or teacher!). This directs the person giving feedback to identify what has been included in the leaflet, whilst giving extra room for additional comments to be made. An overall judgement of overall strengths and areas to be improved can then be made by the leaflet creator or the marker – whichever suits the needs of your lesson plan. I have found this resource useful with both KS3 and KS4 Geography pupils when teaching about rivers but have also adapted this resource to use across other topics and tasks such as coastal landscapes and tourism. Adaptable versions are included in this download enabling you to alter to suit your school’s geography curriculum or to cater to the needs of your teaching groups.

Year 7 Workbook (Parts 1 & 2) - Introducing secondary school Geography / KS2 to KS3 Transition Booklet

2 Resources
These workbooks have been designed to be used with Year 7 pupils starting their KS3 Geography course. It could also be used as a home learning activity for Year 7 pupils (KS3), or as KS2 transition work prior to them starting at secondary school. These workbooks aim to introduce pupils to the subject, with thought given to what the study of Geography entails as well as an introduction to geographical investigations. Activities have been designed to encourage pupils to make links with their prior learning as well as the World around them to recognise the links between these ideas and the subject of Geography. This promotes an initial interest in the subject in addition to a wider understanding of the ways in which Geography links to their lives and the prior learning, thus promoting the importance of the subject in the KS3 curriculum. They are also a great resource for teachers to use for assessing new pupils prior learning and ability to use different skills. The workbooks are presented as a series of lessons for pupils to follow. The lessons in workbook part 1 include: ‘What is Geography?’ (lesson 1), ‘The types of Geography’ (lesson 2), and ‘Where in the World?’ (lesson 3). Workbook part 2 continues building upon these ideas and includes: ‘How well do you know the UK?’ (lesson 4), ‘Geography in our local area’ (lesson 5), and ‘Collecting and presenting data in Geography’ (lesson 6). This bundle provides you with a PDF copy of each workbook along with editable Word Documents of these to adapt to your own needs if necessary.

Year 7 Workbook (Part 2) - Introducing secondary school Geography / KS2 to KS3 Transition Booklet

This workbook has been designed to be used with Year 7 pupils starting their KS3 Geography course. It could also be used as a home learning activity for Year 7 pupils (KS3), or as KS2 transition work prior to them starting at secondary school. This workbook aims to continue to introduce pupils to the subject as well as allowing teachers to assess pupil prior knowledge and confidence using selected geographical skills. Activities have been designed so pupils demonstrate their locational knowledge as well as their ability to think through a geographical investigation, with the opportunity to complete geographical skills such as mean, median, mode and range, as well as completing a stacked bar graph and a radar graph on given data. Therefore, this workbook both provides pupils with insight into how Geography links to their local area, and their teachers a different style of baseline assessment which can be used to later set pupils, or to readdress areas of the geography curriculum as necessary. The workbook has been designed to follow part 1 of the Year 7 Introduction to Geography Workbook (see my other resources). As in the part 1 workbook, this part 2 workbook is presented as a series of ‘lessons’ including ‘How well do you know the UK?’ (Lesson 4), ‘Geography in our local area’ (Lesson 5), and ‘Collecting and presenting data in Geography’ (Lesson 6). Please note that Part 1 of this Year 7 Introduction to Geography workbook is available in my resources and both can be purchased as a bundle for a lower price. * Within this resource you will get a PDF copy of the workbook and an editable Word Document to adapt to your own needs if necessary.

Geography in the News - KS2 / KS3 Worksheet

(0)
This worksheet has been designed to be used with pupils in KS2, who are preparing to study KS3 Geography as they transition from primary to secondary education. It could also be used as a home learning activity for Year 7 and/or Year 8 pupils (KS3). This worksheet aims to encourage pupils to read around the subject of Geography, promoting a greater interest in current affairs and a wider understanding of the different ways in which Geography links to the World around us. The worksheet itself asks pupils to give a summary of their chosen news story (in the form of an image) prior to identifying the types of Geography evident and those likely to be affected by events happening. Following this exploration of the information they have read, pupils are encouraged to make an overall judgement of how the news story might link to Geography. Within this resource you will get a PDF copy of the worksheet and an editable Word Document to adapt to your own needs if necessary.

GCSE Geography Fieldwork Revision Sheet

GCSE Geography Fieldwork Revision Sheet Includes PDF version and editable Word document This GCSE (KS4) Geography fieldwork revision sheet encourages pupils to summarise and recap the key points from their human and physical geography fieldwork. I use this with my Year 11 pupils to prepare for their Paper 3 AQA GCSE Geography examination. It can be completed independently as a revision or home learning task, or even as a whole class in preparation for their examination. The clear layout summarises their learning for this part of the paper, making revision of this section more manageable. This download includes both a PDF version and an editable Word document. GCSE Geography Fieldwork Mark Scheme

GCSE Geography Fieldwork Mark Scheme

GCSE Geography Fieldwork Mark Scheme Includes both a PDF version and editable Word Document version. A mark scheme for the write-up of GCSE (KS4) fieldwork. A total of 48 marks to be gained, with a clear outline of what pupils should include in their fieldwork write-up from the aim of their study, how they should be presenting and statistically analysing their data to what to include when evaluating the success of both their physical and human geography fieldwork. I use this with my Year 10/11 pupils who are studying AQA GCSE Geography. Although their fieldwork knowledge is tested in the Paper 3 exam, I find pupils understand the process of fieldwork best when having thought through the process written it up themselves. These handy mark schemes are great for outlining exactly what each pupil should include in their human geography and physical geography coursework-style write-up. I have ensured that all key points are covered, based on the examination questions I have seen so far. Adaptable versions are included in this download enabling you to alter to suit your school’s fieldwork or to edit so it can be used with other year groups.

Geographical Enquiry / Investigation - KS3 / KS2

Geographical Enquiry / Investigation - KS3 / KS2 Fully adaptable documents with both higher and lower ability resources. A geographical investigation into how nice your school is, following the GCSE steps of a geographical enquiry. Includes pupil-friendly mark scheme (point-marks), teacher level descriptors for the data analysis and conclusions section, home learning tasks and a comprehensive work book that can be used across the teaching of this unit of work. Both higher and lower ability resources have been created and are provided in this download. I find that this works best with my Year 7’s as it allows them to find out about their new school, as well as giving them the opportunity to plan and conduct a geographical enquiry which reflects what is required of them in KS4 and KS5 geography studies. This could also be used with KS2 pupils to give them an insight into secondary school geography and encourage independence in their work. All documents are either Microsoft Word Documents or Microsoft PowerPoint to allow full access and adaptability to your own school.

Geography in the News - KS3 / KS4 / KS5 worksheet

Geography in the News - KS3 / KS4 / KS5 worksheet PDF and editable Word Document included. I have used this worksheet with pupils in KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have found that it worked particularly well with AS/A Level pupils, where pupils have a greater understanding of the interrelationships across different physical and human environments. This worksheet aims to encourage pupils to read around the subject of Geography, promoting a greater interest in current affairs. The worksheet itself makes pupils to give a brief summary of the News Story before really linking this to the Geography curriculum, both topics that are perhaps being studied currently and those from prior learning. Within this resource you will get a PDF copy of the worksheet and an editable Word Document to adapt to your own needs if necessary.
