Christmas List spreadsheet to clarify Excel software ability

Christmas List spreadsheet to clarify Excel software ability

This is an editable spreadsheet which has been designed to test the knowledge of Excel or it could be used to teach Excel. There are two tasks: one is to make a family/friends Christmas shopping list and the other is for a Christmas family. The first two worksheets are teacher examples of how to make a basically formatted version of the two tasks. There are three budgets you can set: one for the list, one for the party and these total up to an overall budget. This way students can decide where they will save money from as they may overspend in the list but save on the party and so keep to the overall budget. It is perfect for ICT/Computing/ECDL practice before creating big flat file databases and moving in to relational databases. This can be used as an end of term/topic assessment for the following areas: IT, flat file databases, spreadsheets, software usage, ECDL - used leading up to the students taking the test or as a baseline assessment for years 8 and 9. Skills this document tests are: formatting (which is also useful for PowerPoint and Word), formulas, functions such as IF and VLOOKUP, data validation, budget handling, accounting and software usage. This is a fun activity which can be used leading up to Christmas holidays. You can adjust the "Items Available" list to have whatever you want in it so I would recommend locking that worksheet before you hand it to the students to work on. I have used this very successfully when I was running ECDL and got 95% of a year group through their Excel ECDL exam due to it. This is because it really can be used to thoroughly understand the whole of Excel at a moderately challenging standard (enough to sit the ECDL exam in that Software).
