Lesson 1- Children describe Paddington Bear using expanded noun phrases. Lesson 2 - Children watch clip where PB meets the Brown family. They write sentences about this using connectives. Lesson 3 - Children watch the clip where PB eats in the station cafe. They write sentences using a question and an exclamation, as well as connectives. Lesson 4 - Children watch the clip of PB in the bathroom. Again, they write sentences using a question and an exclamation, as well as connectives. The PPT (or alternatively Notebook file) provides teaching and practice activities. There are links to the YouTube promotional clips for the first Paddington film. Learning objectives and checklists are also provided for each lesson. These enable children to proofread their own or a partner’s work. Small pictures are provided which can be printed out for children to use who need additional help. They can be stuck down one side of the page and children can write sentences next to them. Everything is fully editable so you can change it to suit the needs of your class. Objectives: Write narratives about personal experiences and those of others (real and fictional); planning or saying out loud what they are going to write about; proofreading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation; Sentence structure: I can use expanded noun phrases for description; I can use co-ordination (using or, and, but); I can use Subordination (using when, if, that, because); Punctuation: I use capital letters for names; I use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks to demarcate sentences Please take the time to review this resource and to offer any suggestions. This set of lesson plans, resources, and activities is for use with “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae. It can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction – which makes these resources a smart choice for literacy centers or Reader’s Workshop. Here’s What You’ll Get and Why: My goal was to make it easy to teach readers how to think about “Giraffes Can’t Dance” using a variety of comprehension strategies. That’s why I’ve included page by page lesson plans, guided practice worksheets, and text specific reader’s notebook prompts for the following strategies: Making Predictions Determining Importance Asking Questions Understanding Text Structure Synthesizing I also created an Extension Activity for early finishers. Next, I find that vocabulary instruction works best when it’s done within the context of books that students are already reading. That’s why I’ve included the following vocabulary resources: Vocabulary Word List Flash Cards (match words to pictures and match words to definitions) Interactive Vocabulary Notebook Cards Vocabulary Word Games Printable Personal Vocabulary Word Bookmark I’ve also included a word study lesson plan and set of activities, because, much like vocabulary, I find that word study works best within context. As a result, I have identified word patterns within trade books and have developed lesson plans and resources based on the word study that can be done with specific books. Area for recording additional support for children who need it. Handwriting practice completed separately. Minimal tweaking required to apply to any genre. Used last year for year 2 children and got top 10% writing results for SATs. One text required for each 2 week cycle. One comprehension, one spelling activity and one grammar activity also needed. Huge time saver as weekly planning time is small changes to include additional activities (eg. debates for persuasive writing etc)

End of topic reward lesson design, then make, then decorate biscuits. The recipe I used is as follows: 200g plain flour 100g margarine 100g sugar 1 egg Grease tray. Sieve flour. Cut and rub in fat to fine breadcrumbs. add sugar and any flavourings. add beaten egg and bring together. roll out and cut out shapes bake for 10-20 mins at 180 until straw coloured allow to cool.

I personally printed them off, laminated them and put them on a key ring. This is not my resource. It was shared with me and I am also sharing it at the request of others.
